My new (two weeks) allroad needs badly to be washed. (I originally typed "needs to be washed badly" but avoiding that is the point of this inquiry.)

So:

[1] What product should I use to wash the car?

[2] Is it too early to wax the car? How long should I wait before waxing it?

[3] What is the best wax for the painted areas?

[4] What product(s) should I use on the plastic areas of the car?

And, finally, are there any other things that I should consider or buy to do a really good job?

I tend to spend more time driving my allroad than detailing it so here are products I have found work great with minimal effort...

Sonax Gloss Shampoo. This has got to be the best car wash on earth. Leaves a beautiful shine.

One Grand Blitz wax. Easy to apply & remove. Very durable. Water will bead up for months.

I bought both from Car Care Specialties in New Jersey. Phone # 877-796-8300. They have a website with lots of detailing tips at www.carcareonline.com but it is difficult to order from the website. They also carry one item that is hard to find in local auto parts stores...Wurth CU 800 Copper Anti-Seize. Works great at preventing the wheels from seizing to the hub, a common Audi problem from my experience.

You can wax the car now. My dealer actually waxed my allroad with McGuire's yellow wax prior to delivery. (another good wax)

I never believed in the "no wax" bumpers/flairs/roof. With UV rays, road salt, bird droppings, bugs, etc. I decided to wax everything and am happy with the result. A little dull shine but at least it is a little easier to get the bugs off the front bumper.

You can always Caranuba a car...It's new to you (2 weeks), but it's still a few weeks old since leaving the assembly plant.

Worry about waxing too early when coming back from an autobody shop ---

I have Caranuba'd the car many times, and have even done the fender flares over the wheels. LOOKS GREAT, and lasts for a while.

I wouldn't recommend doing the Roof or the bumpers with caranuba though ...

I have cleaned the bumpers with a "spray and finger rub" of WD-40. It cleaned off all the road gunk & bugs and made them look great -- I simply "washed" off the WD-40 with a good car wash called "Sonax Gloss Shampoo" -- left a nice consistent clean glow....

Man I love this car when it's clean...

When I first got my allroad I washed with dawn then used a claybar than applied Zaino. I like Zaino but everyone has thier preference. I use Z6 which is a quick detail spray on the matte finishes. Doesn't change the look and makes it a little easier to keep clean. After you have a coat of whatever wax/sealent you chose on your car you can keep it clean with any car soap and a quick detailer.

I use the following once a year to really clean the car (have not tried on the plastic areas):
1. Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Pro Fine-Cut Cleaner #2 2. Meguiar's Pro Show Car Glaze #7
3. Meguiar's Carnuba Yellow Wax (use this twice a year)

Detailing (whenever needed):
1. Meguires Pro Tire Gel (new product) works very well and lasts as advertised.
2. Meguires Interior Towelettes (similar to Armour All)
3. Meguires Leather Treatment.

The car is ready to be waxed. I use Fleetwax
cleaner/wax. It is a liquid wax (like water) and
only available at better marine supply stores.
The container says its impervious to the elements,
bird droppings, salt, etc. I use it once a year
and the car looks great and cleans very easily.
It takes me less than 30 minutes to finish the
car (less the matte finishes which I leave alone).
None of that flaky white stuff in the creases
either. It's made by Collinite. The boat looks great too.

Zymol HD Cleanse for pre-wash (before first application), then regular zymol wash ("Clear" is the product name, I think.) After that, Zymol wax. I had not used zymol wax before getting my allroad, but like it since it is easy to apply and does not leave white stuff on plastic or rubber. Pricey, though. Check out zymol.com, I think autosupermart.com sells the stuff for little less $.

Used Zymol for the first time on my AR. HD Cleanse, and then the Titanium Glaze on the paint, and the Detail wax on the bumpers/roof/flairs, etc. Several months of nasty colorado spring snow, and hot sun (I live in Dillon and commute Vail Pass to work), and the wax still beads water like I waxed it yesterday. Bugs fall off with a short blast of the hose. I've been very impressed with these products.

However, if you fail to follow the directions, and let these products dry on your paint, I would imagine that they'd be near impossible to remove.
