I recently ordered a 2002 allroad (2/9/02), and I was wondering if anyone could educate me on the fine art of waiting patiently. The dealer continues to hedge on the final delivery date (I understand why), but I was interested in other people's experiences. BTW, they are targeting first week of May.

How long does the process normally take, and what are the various stages of completion?

Our order was submitted by the dealer in the 1st week of November. In the 3rd week of November, the dealer was able to tell us when it was scheduled for build (2nd week of Dec). I believe once the car is scheduled for build the serial number is available. In the last week of Nov, they told us that the build started Nov 27 (ahead of schedule). Last week of December, we were told that the car was in transit to Canada. 1st week of January - in port in Halifax. It took 3 weeks to get from port to our dealer in Calgary on Jan 29. We took delivery Jan 30.

Audi's order status reporting system was apparently upgraded last fall - our dealer says they could now tell you fine detail on the status (your car is entering the paint booth right now...).

FWIW, when we placed the order the dealer estimated delivery would be in March, February if we were lucky - normal time from order to delivery in Canada being 4 months or more. I guess we were extremely lucky! Variables are when the dealer has an allocation to use for your order, and when that allocation is submitted; timing of production at factory vs. next ship sailing for your port; time waiting in port for transport to your dealer, etc.

Hope this helps! The hardest part is trying to wait patiently... but it's definitely worth it!

Gordon

Ordered mine the middle of October; took delivery the first week of February on the West Coast of the U.S.

My login name is different on my home PC, but I was the one that asked the question above.

I appreciate your detailed comments. It appears as though the timing on my allroad may be similar (barring any unforeseen obstacles).
