I picked up a 2000 A4 brochure yesterday. After studying all the interior choices available, I am a little confused about the distinction between clay and opal gray. Is there more of a difference in person? They look almost identical in tint and color in the brochure, especially in leather. The clay is perhaps just a tiny bit darker. There seems to be more of a difference in cloth seats, as the clay is definitely darker (but not by a whole lot).

Can anybody recommend the clay Advance interior (not decided on cloth or leather yet) for a 2000 A4 2.8?

Clay is definitely more Brown, Opal is more Gray

I've heard it called a muddy greyish brown but that doesn't make it sound attractive. It's a great looking interior though. Looks great with Hibiscus Red, Catus Green, and Santorin Blue.

I have a 98.5 A4 2.8q Tip in Opal Gray cloth. The cloth is very gray. The Opal Gray leather has a brown hue to it.
I have not seen Clay but from what I hear it is much more brown or taupe in shade. It also appears to me much darker than the Opal Gray. I would think it would be an excellent choice with Melange, perhaps Sable Brown and I'm sure many others. I am anxious to see Clay in person. Audi has improved the interior color selections a lot for model year 2000

I have seen the Clay leather w/ Melange exterior and it looks very nice. I was able to compare it directly to other cars on the lot w/ Opal Gray and Clay is a lot darker. It might have more brown to it, but I could not say for sure.

My mother has a 99.5 2.8 w/ the Melange/Clay Leather combo. Clay is not that dark. It is just slightly more brown than the Opal Grey. For those that don't like Onyx, I think it's the best looking interior (especially w/ Melange), IMHO.
