and was wondering what they do in stock, slightly moded, and heavily modified.... I've got a 97 Mustang GT with an automatic trans it runs 15.1 at 94mph at Sears Point with just K&N and a cat-back exhaust.....

14.736 @ 90.0mph... w/ K04 1bar chip
15.753 @ 85.06mph w/ 1bar chip

The first is my car, pretty much fully loaded. The second one is my friend's A4... similarly loaded. Both manual transmission. These were done at NY Int'l Raceway, Leister, NY.
Driver skill maybe a factor here... we were both new to this drag racing thing.

The K04 adds alittle bit... not as much as the stock to chip. The "goodness" of the K04 is the ability to retain boost of 1bar up to redline (maybe alittle past it), where as the K03 will start dropping back to 10-11lbs after 5200rpm.
Sorry, do know what the HP # is....

The A4 is a 'Luxury' sports sedan it is not a dragster. If your interested in 1/4 miles times and speed, stick with the the cars that do that best.
For the life of me I can't understand why you people want to destroy a wonderful auto like the A4 by trying to get 350hp out of the 1.8. Unless of course you've more money than sense.

Just buy a cobra. It'll be cheaper.

You may be a refined owner, that's great. This guy didn't even say he was GOING to modify his car for the 1/4, he was just wondering. And judging by the posts already made, a few people DO take their car to the drags. Each to their own.
Peace. No flames, please.

As the former owner of nothing but V8 RWD cars, I can tell you the A4 is not at its best on a drag strip. I've owned my A4 about 10 months now and I'm still mystified by the gradual build-up of acceleration. I thought it was just me but I've read Audi tests in CAR, C&D, and R&T that all mention how they got their best 1/4 mile times by winding up the mill and side-stepping the clutch but this is bad for the AWD driveline. I'm still considering trading in for a 2.8/2.7 as I really miss the torque, but then there goes your mileage.

If you're looking for a fast 1/4 mile car for $30k, the A4 1.8T IS NOT what you want. It really isn't made for drag racing. IN SPITE of that fact, me as well as some other A4 owners do take our cars to the drag strip, which is fine, *BUT* I never cared about 1/4 mile times before I bought this car because it didn't / doesn't matter to me, it's not made for that. If you're comparing 1320 times with other $30k cars, you better forget the A4 because it's just not going to blow your socks off.

I do disagree with the fact that *anyone* who puts money into making their A4 faster has "more money than sense"... that comment is just ridiculous. The sheer pleasure of driving the A4, be it with 150hp or 350hp is reason enough for some people to have that kind of power. I don't get where you extract that comment "destroy a wonderful auto" from, who says it destroys? A good kit (APR, PES) doesn't do anything except ENHANCE the 1.8T's potential, much less destroy it.

No flames, please.

Go back to your American piece of junk. There's more to driving than just straight-line acceleration, dude.

I simply use 1320 times to verify performance claims on my upgrades. I would rather use a dyno to check, but AWD dyno's aren't available where I live.

Upgrades including suspension, chips, tires, and brakes have made an incredible car even better. (at least for my tastes) and the price of these upgrades are definately reasonable ($500 for a 50 hp gain!)

Some people have not had good experiences with TAP's higher stage upgrades. Definately review the archives.
