I am going to finalize purchase of a new '99. After all the agonizing decisions it comes down to this question: Can the stock audi 6-CD changer from my old '96 be used w/ the non-Bose stock audi stereo in the new '99? Will it just plug in to the new system like it did in the old one? In '96 the changer was mounted up high by the rear speakers, now its in the side compartment by the tools. Will the old one fit there w/o modification.

Don't think so. I recently traded a '97 that had a non-Bose changer for a '99.5. I was told by folks at at least 2-3 different dealers that the old changer was not compatible with the new radio, so I traded in the '97 with the changer still installed. There may be some kind of a fix for this incompatibility, but it certainly isn't a plug-and-play solution. I ended up buying a Bose equipped '99.5, by the way.
