I have ruled out the s4 avant as it is just too small for a wagon and will soon be an old design even though I love the s4 avant. A more realistic comparison is the allroad vs the a6 avant. My dealer says it is a no brainer for the allroad. Is it a far better choice and is it worth the extra $$$? I don't particularly care for the suv styling ques but is loaded with many interesting features and is a very new design. Thanks for your input in advance. Love audi world. This site is reason enough to buy an audi!

Everyone loves the A6 Avant but admits that it is underpowered. In fact I have a friend who bought a 2000 Avant with the luxury package and is now in the uncomfortable position of explaining to his wife why he ordered a new allroad. As much as the "styling cues" bother you the real world allroad ground clearance works great. I parked near an Avant yesterday in downtown Mpls and was surprised to see the front fairing firmly planted in the snow. The avant is a prettier car in the conventional sense but if looks are the determinant take a look at Rod's car below.

Had a 1999.5 Avant.. Good car but very underpowered. My previous Volvo v70 was far and away quicker than the avant, especially off the start. My new allroad takes the best of the avant and makes it ten times better. Obviously the engine, twin turbo and bigger tires, riding higher is nice too, but you don't have to be up there with the SUVs all of the time. I feel the extra ten grand is well, well worth it. And as you probably have read in previous posts, I really prefer the more dramatic look that separates it from the Avant. I think the dark heavy plastic at the bumpers and over the fenders really protects from all that "city parking paint chipping" (as well as tree, shrubs and the other natural stuff from off road driving). I ain't painting mine.

Great engine, great features. Spend the extra money and enjoy the power & features & design. If you don't like the bumper/fender looks, get the car in black where they don't stand out as much or have them painted. (See other postings.)

I'd been waiting for a faster A6 Avant for years, when I heard about the allroad I dismissed it due the the SUV over tones. After a bit more thought and seeing them in Europe just after their launch, plus the realization the AoA wasn't likely to hurry in anything else. I put in an order, since then I've been a bit worried about how it would be.

Well that all changed when my car got here. It is nothing short of fabulous, it handles and rides like a dream at the lowest setting and when I get up into the snow it will be plowing through up on high. I'm really happy with everything in mine, the heated seats are great, especially for those in the back, the nav is easy to use and so far accurate, the interior looks fabulous, especially at night.

Haven't got any complaints and definatley no regrets, well if the V8 comes out ... Oh well, I can always trade up and after waiting soooo loong for this one I'm glad I've got it.
