Has anyone out there had success painting the fender flares and bumpers?

As you can read several are getting them painted like their Euro conterparts. It is a personal taste issue. I never understood painted bumpers at all. Remeber beautiful chrome ones-It was hard to even scratch them. I was behind a new TT the other day in San Francisco. A beautiful car with small chips and dings on the back so called bumper. The allroad finally has what cars should have..... protection. Bumpers are made to be bumped and we are not driving stodgy Lexus or the Like. I think the contract is stunning and will leave mine as is. Picking up a Silver Tip with wonderful dark bumpers and wheel trim today at 3PM.

I just spent a weekend driving over & around mountain passes, in the slush & dirt. I'm happy that the bumpers & flares are not painted, I don't have to cringe every time I kick up a rock or have to parallel park in a narrow space.

I bought the allroad to use in all sorts of conditions, if it didn't have the extra protection of the unpainted surfaces, I think it would have less utility. Whether or not it would look better is a matter of personal taste, I happen to like the aggressive look of the matte finish on the bumpers & flares.

FWIW, my wife's A4 has a big chip out of the rear bumper because someone tapped it with theirs. A $200-300 repair for using the bumper for what it was designed for is dumb.

I love the look of the painted flairs but not as much as I like the low maintainance bumpers and flairs. After having my M3 attacked three times in a year and half I am happy to have the discrete luxury of the allroad with the bomproof bumpers and undercarriage.

allroad, allsilver. Looks absolutely awesome, they were reassembling it when I went in today. The sills look particularly cool below the shiny bits. Hopefully get the car tomorrow!!
