View Full Version : Which options are MUST-haves? Trying to stretch my budget to get into an Allroad! Bertman 11-30-2000, 03:06 PM wbk 11-30-2000, 04:04 PM 6 speed, stock wheels=41900, If you live in the cold add 800.00 for heated seats and wheel(very nice), If you drive at night premium package with Xenon lights and a lot of stuff you don't need 900.00, sunroof =1000.00 . Dealers each got a demo car spec'd by AOA and many of those were without sunroofs. Dealers will deal on those in the next month. Ollie 11-30-2000, 05:20 PM Mine has just about everything but these are the ones I wouldn't do without: - Convenience package (includes heated seats & steering wheel, really great if you live in cold weather area) - Premium package (Xenons are great, and the auto dimming mirrors nice, they do keep you from being blinded. Power seats w/memory and folding mirrors nice extras) I found that most cars dealers in the greater Cleveland area were loaded, costing 47850 or over 49000. Please consider that when you want to resell a car this expensive, people interested in buying it will probably expect it to be well equipped. Bertman 12-01-2000, 11:52 AM Base Allroad Quattro $41,900 17" Wheels, Tires $950 Tiptronic (for the wife) $1000 Nav System (for the wife) $1630 Heated seats, wheel, remotes $800 Total MSRP: $46,280 Wow, that's already up there in price, but those are my must haves. Look good to you? srs 12-01-2000, 12:49 PM I ordered mine with standard wheels (they are also 17" and come with the same tires). Aside from the extra cost of the oprional wheels, if you go offroad the double spoke design will make them hard to clean (IMO). There are photo's of the standard wheels on the A6/S6 forum posted by wbk (on 11-06 and 11-07). RMcQ 12-01-2000, 12:49 PM I can't image that this option would not make your bare bones list. Cruise around the various forums to see how everyone speaks so highly of these lights. Better yet, go drive both at the dealer. It doesn't have to be an allroad. Drive a 2.7T sedan with and without. It really is a no-brainer. The NAV system is where the big savings are. I don't know your wife's needs, but in my mind the NAV system would be the first thing to exclude to keep price down because it costs so much. The wheels are a matter of taste, but if you are making a "bare bones" allroad you should opt out of something that adds absolutely NOTHING to the function of the car. In case you don't realize, the standard wheels are identical in size and come with the exact same tires. So, functionally, it isn't an upgrade - its just a extra grand for a fancier design. These are just my opinions of course. In the end it is you who has to decide what is more important for your money. Just thought I would point out that the xenons are better than good and that the wheel "upgrade" is only cosmetic. Bertman 12-01-2000, 01:19 PM wbk 12-01-2000, 01:47 PM Check out the standard wheels, they are the same size and have the same tires and give the car a distinctive audi look. Xenons are wonderful. When I switch to my wife's car I wonder if the headlights are on. Finman 12-01-2000, 02:00 PM Agree with RMcQ--premium wheels (esp in this case--same size, tires, etc, similar looks) are unnecessary in a "bare bones" car as is the Nav system (unnec in almost any car). The tip is obviously a near necessity for some (eg wife). Convenience pkg (htd seats, homelink) only if live in cold area. I would think the xenons and premium package(auto dimming mirrors) with the Bose system +/- sunroof/warm weather pkg would provide more everyday pleasure than a seldom used, rarely more helpful than a paper map, Nav system, and wheels that ? look better than standard. base 41,900 tip 1,000 conv pkg 800 prem pkd 900 Bose 750 sunroof 1,000 Total 46,350 $70 more, more lux, better resale (IMO) Either way--enjoy, and ignore everyone else's opinion and get what you want! 0r, have a kid--sell it-- and get everything ;) CHIPFREE 12-01-2000, 07:23 PM My FIRST MUST HAVE OPTION is a skinny deal. So first bargain hard. They need your money more than you need their car, although dealer tactics try to make you feel the opposite. A rule of thumb for me is "MSRP out the door". I live in California and that includes 7.75% sales and 1.25% lic and doc fees. Don't pay for all the mickey mouse dealer add-ons and phoney discounts. Second, Xenon lights. Third, heated seats and wheel if you live in cold climate. The Allroad is nicely equipped so bare bones is pretty nice. Try an internet buy, or at least use as a bargaining hammer with your local dealer. Play polite hardball. I have decided to not buy an Allroad at this time as I don't care for the offroad decorations. Audi told me that the S6 Avant will be available next summer and I am going to try that. Good luck with your bargaining and purchase. Bertman 12-02-2000, 12:20 AM My wife and I talked it over, and based on your input and some more thinking, here's our updated list: Base Allroad Quattro $41,900 Tiptronic $1000 Convenience (Heated seats, etc.) $800 Premium (Xenons, etc.) $900 ----------------------------------------- Total MSRP: $44,600 And that comes in right around the top end of my budget. Thanks for all the great comments! I think this calls for a test-drive this weekend... :) timbo 12-02-2000, 05:29 AM Wife just got an allroad. Same thing in the Detroit area, they are coming loaded. We pretty much got everything except the nav. I would recommend the premium and convenience packages unless you don't need the heated seats or steering wheel. Standard wheels. Don't get the Bose system - don't think it is worth it. If you want one, ours will be available as soon as I figure out how to get everything out and replaced while satisfying the wife for appearance. She agrees that the Bose is poor. Sunroof isn't necessary but there is minimal wind buffetting and you can talk in a normal voice with the roof open. Mark Jacobs 12-03-2000, 12:24 PM Ditto that. The Xenons are a blessing on the backroads. Gotta getem. Ollie 12-04-2000, 08:56 AM which includes the outstanding xenons and also the power seats/mirrors with memory. If both you and your wife drive the car, you will enjoy them. As a principle, I would choose options that are useful in day-to-day driving. |
