for an A4 with rims (assuming you have an S4)- not to mention the design is ancient.

Hmmm, if you want an A6 2.7T Avant in the US what are your options? And then to add ride height adjustment, what do you have against this car?

I saw a couple at the dealership last week, they are REALLY neat.

Don't worry allroad people, not all S4 guys are this clueless.

not when comparing the allroad to a 540i wagon or E320 wagon. These are the "real world" competitors to the allroad. Pardon me for leaving out the Volvo awd for a sec. The Suburu doesn't quite yet offer this type of performance, chassis and refinement and that's the difference and hence the pricing disparity. However, it's only $32ish fully loaded. Even with the new motor that produces 212hp it still leaves the Suburu a little shy in the performance category. But you certainly have a point that it might not be $18,000 shy!! Chassis and motor aside it seems quite a number considering these two cars head to head.

The awd Volvo comes only in Cross Country trim at 200hp approx. The T5 is a FWD car. With all the options they both get into the low $40's msrp. So its back to the Benz and Bimmer based on relative performance and chassis. The 540i is rwd at mid $50's and the Benz is 4Matic at a similar price.

So the allroad can for now "get away" with this pricing to entice buyers who want a rock solid chassis, all wheel drive and a strong motor. Now a 530i wagon with the new x, awd might be a worthy performance competitor, imho. However, to the best of my knowledge the x is only being offered on the 3 series for now.

If I had the money...I would probably have one for trips
to Tahoe, etc.

Audi Allroad.... Outback..... Pinto hatchback...all the same. My first new car was a brand new 1972 brown Ford Pinto hatchback. Just under $3,000. It had the power of an Allroad if you rear ended it! That's 16 Pintos for the price of an Allroad. And my parents house in Menlo Park California was $24,000.

an all road looks like a subaru? Even if that was true, does that mean it performs like a subaru, has the interior of a subaru, has the same technology integrated in the car as the subaru? Funny last I checked I didn't see air suspension as an option on the subaru.. A car is MUCH more then what it appears to be, which any TRUE car enthusiast can recognize.. as for you Im gonna go out on a limb and say you got the S4 b/c of whats under the hood... but maybe you got it b/c of the pricetag on it.. My advice for you..grow up and show some respect...

When my folks bought their house in Los Altos Hills...they got it for $83K...and I obtained an MGB roadster for FREE...I just had to tow it to our house. My very first car was a Plymouth Valiant with push button gears...beat that! :-)

a fancy suspension, 50 more ponies and a nicer interior. Then again I wouldn't expect an engineer to understand the finer points of marketing. Take S4man's opinion for what "it" is, and think.

...you distill the difference down to "fancy
suspension, 50 more ponies and a nicer interior",
and you've got the gall to tell someone that
they don't understand "finer points of marketing"???

Jeez. Take your own advice and think before you post.

Deep breath. Relax. Good air in, bad air
out. You'll be ok, but see someone about that
complex, 'kay?

with a man like you as the measure of intelligence, I would be considered a genius.

I don't understand all of this arguing! $45K for an A6 2.7T sedan... add a few gadgets including the height adjustable suspension, how in the heck is $50K ridiculous? To compare it to the Outback is to say that both of us drive extremely expensive Impreza sedans!

First lets get some things straightened out... The allroad is 15,805 more not 18,000, the Allroad has 85 more HP not 50, 96 more lbs torque, it is longer, wider, tows more, has a longer warranty, and lets not forget the allroad has 2 turbos, yes 2... As for performance the outback doesn't even come close to the allroad..
AllRoad..........Outback
6.8s......0-60.....10.5 (very impressive)
14.8s(est)..1/4 mile...17.9s
Yeah I can see how these two can be mistaken .. So what is it that us "idiot engineers" are missing about marketing? And for me to understand those finer points of marketing should I forget college and go back to elementary school and pick up immaturely 101? Yes, calling people "chumps, idiots and clueless" is just so meaningful, you obviously have a lot to add to this forum and to the world .. Maybe you should take what I said and think.. Oh please do say hi to billy for me on Monday..

Of course, you can't buy them in the US but they are much more the drivers car then an S4. Look at any UK performance magazine for the past couple of years !

However, I'd rather have an Audi ( preferably, an RS6 if they ever appear ! ) because they have something more then raw performance. They are well designed and look fabulous as well as being great cars. Having been a Subaru owner for the last 10 years, about the only comparison is they are both great AWD cars.

Well Ok, so I lied... I would rather have the RS4 than the allroad :) But since I can't have an RS4 I will take the Allroad happily!
