Can you tell me what the symtoms of a 5-speed trans with bad syncros are?

One obvious symptom would be that it's hard to get into gear,
or hard to shift quickly (like 1st to 2nd). This is why a lot of
synchros go bad in the first couple gears because of fast
shifting 1st-2nd-3rd, as in racing.

Symptoms of bad syncros: inability to get into gear, with extreme grinding sound.

I have a 99.5 1.8TQMS with a bad 3rd gear synchro or so the dealer thought and now I am getting a new transmission. When shifting from second to third gear under moderate exceleration it grinds.

Does the Dealer have your A4 taken apart and you in a loaner/rental?..........

What did you say to them to get a new trans?
