I was behind a volvo 750 GLT yesterday doing about 70-85 on the highway.

The guy had a lot of pull on the car. I was easily able to keep up but I did have to turn off the A/C

It the 'T' in GLT turbo? I know they have several engines in the volvos (i.e. 5 Cylinder Turbo).
He did have decent pick-up.

My friend just got a '93 850 GLT... it's a non-turbo model.
I am pretty sure the turbocharged models have this "intercooled" badge under the numeral insignia.

The new ones (S and C series) don't carry any visual cue for the turbo.

If it was an 850 glt it was turbocharged. They did not make a 750, only 740,760,or 780 coupe.

When that model was introduced, there was the 850 and 850GLT, designating trim level difference, same engine in both, non-turbo. The turbo version was called an 850 Turbo or T5, I believe, and had a high pressure turbo.

In the current model the S70 is normal aspirated, the S70GLT has a light pressure turbo, and the T5 has a higher boost turbo. There was a hotter model in there somewhere also that was called an R5, I think.

I think the old 740 turbo had the 'intercooled' badge.

Beeing a Sweede I ough to know this one...

The 740 GLT (not 750) came in 2 different engine types, both non-turbo. First one is a 4 cylinder 8 valve with about 130 hp, and the second one also a 4 cylinder but 16 valve with 150 hp.

If it was an 850 GLT the engine is a 5 cylinder 20 valve with 170 hp (still non-turbo).

Hope this bring some light to it.

Turbocharged. And yes, they have chips for these cars. :-)

The light pressured GLT comes out of the factory already with 190 horsepower. With a IPD Motronic upgrade for example, horsepower jumps to 230. Can you imagine the Turbo (T5) Models of the 850 come out of the factory with 222hp. Chipped, it becomes 275hp. And if you happen upon one of the new Turbo models, S70/V70 T5, C70, or if you're really lucky, a V70R AWD that's chipped, you'll be eating the dust left behind by his 285hp car with just a chip.

And that is why I almost bought another Volvo instead of my A4. :-)
