The proof in the pudding is no other person on this forum, to my memory, has ever had two off there in any of our photos. One front, all the time, one rear, yep, on FWD cars, but never two and never on a front on an FWD car. It's not about hitting the curbing, but about the speed you are carrying through there WHEN you nick the curbing. As ceboyd and her BF will attest, Mark was flying in that thing. I have, though, captured race cars (namely our at APR Motorsport) on two wheels due to G's alone at the international horseshoe with Pobst at the wheel, and no curb involved. Lifting a front wheel, which is not generated by curbing in most cases, is far worse than a rear, in 99% of cases. It usually means too stiff a front anti-sway, and it does hurt overall traction. We do, see this, often with our photos and nobody seems to bored with those, yet they truly (most often) reflect a handling issue, not unreal driving. The all four wheels off over the jump, as per Witbrod and the others, signifies HUGE testicular fortitude as well as a ton of HP (and virtually no downforce). As explained, what you are seeing there is exceedingly rare. You must not have gathered that from my post, either. His carrying two wheels through they turn for a decent distance is pretty cool to most. The photo is nothing special, what's taking place is pretty cool to most. I've never seen anyone im the Chi Chapter, other than Mark, get a car on two wheels there. Not even you, Dan. Actually, your post was brought to my attention by Mark White himself. He, like apparently everyone else here, thought the image was pretty cool. He then asked me what I generally see at that turn. I figured with his vast and successful racing career, if he was interested, others might be as well. As you were the only person to apparently not like the photo and additionally, to feel it necessary to post in regards to a post I thought many would find informative (my reply) about suspension systems and what we see in the field, I felt it fine to post and hopefully informative. After all, not everyone has the vast experience and understanding of suspensions that you apparently do. Many a wheel lifting photo, from various photographers at various events, have been posted here to not a negative comment. Actually, whether it was me, Leslie, BCD or any others, all seemed to enjoy Chris likely thought so,as it seems every other comment shows that the large majority would be interested in seeing the photo. Even the guy who races in ALMS, Koni and Grand Am found it cool. I guess your experience with all the DE's and setting up cop cars as left you far from easily impressed. As this seemed to be just "hitting a curb" to you, a wrong impression, I really thought that since someone with your vast experience wasn't getting what was fully happening in the photo, others must not as well. Also, considering how many people we shoot have their cars set up too stiffly and lift wheels at all the events we are at, I figured that many would/could/might be informed. In your case, I was wrong. To each his/her own. Everyone else was cool with it, you weren't. Who'd have thought? Mike S Dvlad 05-03-2008, 08:33 AM |
