View Full Version : Question for the computer gurus here. Posted this in the Computer forum as well, but that forum DaveyKid 02-08-2008, 04:46 AM moves slower and thought I might get a better response over here....

Click

ICONCLS 02-08-2008, 04:58 AM DaveyKid 02-08-2008, 05:39 AM Media card disconnected.... That opens up a whole host of new searches for me. I'll be back. I'm betting you have a Linksys? The default internal IP will be 192.168.1.1 so go to http://192.168.1.1 Then follow the prompts for DHCP and see if it is running. All else fails, reload the config by holding the power button for about 10 seconds. You will then need to recreate your SSID, WEB keys, and a few other minor things. Is this an internal wifi card, or a USB/PCMIA type of card?...should've asked that first actually. 911eric 02-08-2008, 09:41 AM gregmag 02-08-2008, 10:30 AM and if needed: DaveyKid 02-08-2008, 03:47 PM I dragged my laptop to work today and it connected immediately with the Linksys wireless router I have at work. No problems. I then brought home a different laptop I have from work and it connected with my home wireless router. No problems. It's the combination of my home laptop and my home router that don't work. Any other ideas? KenY 02-08-2008, 04:08 PM DaveyKid 02-08-2008, 04:39 PM gription 02-08-2008, 05:22 PM Move the home laptop to work and the work laptop to home. Or - did you remember to automatically save your router's encryption settings on the new laptop? Or did they become corrupted / scrambled? Not that I know a damn thing about computers, so if I'm wrong, don't flame me. DaveyKid 02-08-2008, 06:34 PM KenY 02-08-2008, 08:21 PM so lets try again...does your home laptop see your home router at all? if so when it shows you that its connected to your home network do you get an ip? (note it shouldnt be 169.x.x.x, it should probably a 192.168.x.x ip) quattro_silver 02-12-2008, 09:54 AM you could check that your laptop is setup to automatically configure your DHCP. Assuming your using IE7: open browser->Tools->Internet options->Connections->LAN settings -check if a proxy is being used. -if no proxy, then you can set the option to 'automatically detect settings' *check the laptop/computer that works and see how it is setup with the DHCP, and simply copy those settings. *you can also do an open browser->Tools->Internet options->Advanced->RESET DaveyKid 02-12-2008, 12:58 PM router at work then? And my other laptop finds my home wireless router without a problem. Strange. quattro_silver 02-14-2008, 09:54 AM for some reason your not getting a DNS from the router. ultimately it could be the wireless card in your laptop is starting to malfunction. if you wanted me to take a look at it sometime shoot me an email. *from the time it did work on that laptop, has ANYTHING been changed? Also, i assume the laptop that is working on that router is conencted wirelessly as well, is that true? DaveyKid 02-14-2008, 11:01 AM wireless router at work? Nothing has changed. No software additions, deletions, nothing. I thought about going back quite a ways in the system restore feature to see if that helps but it's been way too long now. I'm baffled. quattro_silver 02-15-2008, 03:08 PM after some basic troubleshooting i would back your data up and reformat/reinstall windows. your looking at 3-4 hours max. KenY 02-15-2008, 07:23 PM is like pink slip racing using his r32 vs a stock 1.8t :) quattro_silver 02-17-2008, 03:39 PM after i have removed and uninstalled all the hardware devices. i assume this is an onboard nic. you could always disable the onboard nic and buy a peripheral card, but that's like putting a bandaid on the problem. if all else failed i would reinstall windows. microsoft sucks sometimes. |
