View Full Version : OK, so what harnesses should I get? Fraser@PNS now w/S6 04-17-2007, 08:11 PM I feel like I am starting over with learning about cars. I have them in the Mini and they're great. Fraser@PNS now w/S6 04-17-2007, 08:24 PM DaveyKid 04-17-2007, 10:37 PM AIM? Dude, I guess I have to rethink the whole Mini thing. So so disappointing. The way I see it is, in order for you to redeem yourself, you have to lap me at the track of your choice, under the conditions of your choice in order for you to regain your status as track stud/dude. Do you feel otherwise? bradford 04-17-2007, 10:52 PM That went over my head in ten different ways. *confused* AIM = AOL Instant Messenger 40v-V8 04-18-2007, 05:19 AM 911eric 04-18-2007, 06:06 AM If you're planning to wear a Hans, you should consider the hans-specific belts (which have 2" shoulder belts). That's what Shon just bought. WindyCityS4 04-18-2007, 06:50 AM 911eric 04-18-2007, 07:11 AM On Schroth's hans-specific harnesses, everything is 3" except the shoulder belts. The shoulder belts are 2" and increase to 3" just above the buckle. KenRK 04-18-2007, 07:15 AM I know there was some discussion about 3 vs 4 point a while ago but so long as you're picking up something with ASM it's using the same technology that that 3 point is to keep you from submarining and provides a much tighter fit in the seat. The Ralley 4 Quickfit allows the car to remain somewhat stealth for dealer issues as well. That said, after having done the Hans and 6 point harnesses, I can't imagine tracking a car any other way. Only 4 track days into the season and I already found myself a bit uncomfortable in the passenger seat with 4 points and a neck doughnut. The Hans just requires a substantial commitment as you will probably want some kind of roll protection once you travel down that path. Hans compatible harnesses do not have the ASM stitching and the shoulder belts need to connect at one center point vs the T connection to the laps belts that the Ralley 4 use. While you can use 3 inch shoulder belts with a Hans, it has guides on the outside edge to fit a 2 inch belt. Schroth makes a specific belt system for it that has 2 inch sub belts, 3 inch lap belts and shoulder belts that are 3 inches from the center connection up to the buckle then 2 inches as they travel over your shoulders. All just a matter of how much you're willing to commit to safety on the track vs functionality on the street. Looking forward to playing cars again with you! Fraser@PNS now w/S6 04-18-2007, 07:22 AM I think for the time being I am going to get the Quick Fits. I do still have a warranty, so I am not doing anything crazy for a while. I like a stealth install as well. Yes, I look forward to the STI's track debut as well. I need a midweek event STAT. fka smurfette 04-18-2007, 07:31 AM 911eric 04-18-2007, 08:05 AM DaveyKid 04-18-2007, 09:40 AM each of their messages back and forth.
