There is a two part race with Randy in his Mazda 6 vs the E63 Mercedes.
Secondly, there is an M5 video where they "flog' it. The only time the car is really out of shape is twice when it comes over a hilly series and his melting it's tires.
Both times, that's Pobst driving (without a helmet, with me in passengers seat, Ian Baas sitting behind him), sliding the car like it was ice.
It was truly hilarious. After three laps of melting the tires, the MT guys were running out ot the tracks edge waiving their arms. We saw them earlier, but Randy was having too much fun.
In the drag, you can't tell, but the Mazda 6 actually starts realing in the Benz later in the race (from say 40mph on), but not enough to catch it.
The test was a thrown together, as was Randy's driving the M5 (Randy drove all three, Ian drove the Audi only. We ran out of light), Ian was driving the S6.
Randy, Ian and I were at Buttonwillow (2 hrs north of LA) for a Mazda factory test and while they were chilling, I went over to the MT guys with the idea of racing the Speed 6 vs one of the cars they were testing. They agreed and it turned into a video and magazine shoot and interview.
Randy literally beat the hell out of that M5. It was really an impressive car and his driving was unreal.
Took place on Nov 8, two days after ACNA Nationals at Barber.
