made you look :-)
well, I kicked it's butt in passenger and trunk space.
But seriously, my bro and I had an encounter today with an Acura NSX on our way home from a NorCal A4 event over at the BlackHawk museum (bay area, california).
I was merging quite fast into Highway 4 from an on-ramp. By the time I got to highway 4, I was going between 75 to 80 mph. That's when I noticed a red NSX slowly approaching us from quite a distance, followed by a uhh, purple accord coupe - the new ones with the V6.
In a few moments time, he was right at my tail as I was in the left most lane following the fast moving traffic - 80 - 85mph. Highway 4 is one of those no speed limit posted freeways here in California for as long as I known it and traffic moves rapidly around that freeway until a Sheriff strolls along. But other than that, what governs driver in that road in my opinion is the grades as well as the winding roads.
So here we are, strolling along with the traffic, he was behind me and the accord was on my right side trying to find a break in the traffic as it was only a 2 lane in each direction freeway.
I lured the NSX driver into following me around the traffic as we slowly passed the other cars. One more car to go and alas, finally, no cars in sight for miles and miles ahead. The bad part, it was a slight uphill grade probably 2-3%. Damn, I can't use the weight of the A4 as an advantage, it became a disadvantage. So, here I go, I moved over to the right lane, he was about 4 cars behind.
I floor my car in 4th - 85, 90, 100, 110, 115 and whoooosh! He passes me like I was standing still. He was probably going around 130mph or so when I saw his tail lights. The real funny part was while he was passing me, he noticed me purposely rocking my body back and forth like I was asking for more power from the car. He busted out laughing.
So, after that brief rush of adrenaline, we both go back to the normal freeway speed of uuh, 80. Then freeway ended into a 40mph 2 lane road. I caught up with him as the road opened up again and he was merging into highway 80 as I was going local traffic. Me and my bro give him the thumbs up as he gives us a peace sign and was honking the rinky dink horn of his car. What an encounter.
I knew I had no chance in hell with this beast. But, I really wanted to see one in action- the NSX that is. And whoa, that was fast. I probably made his day, as he made mine. Oh yeah, the accord, it was history when we all went for it.
I knew this guy was a good driver just from observing him move around the lanes behind me. Always kept his distance, passed cars safely and he read my mind, as I read his. I knew he wanted to do it, and I wanted to see it. Onced he proved his point in a matter of seconds, it was over. I got to see his highly modified exhaust piping from behind too, as well as fatter non stock wheels and tires. He's just gotta do something about that stock horn. One thing I really look forward to is seeing them in action at a racetrack against my favorite 911's.
