I have the standard suspension on my 1997 quattro, and want to upgrade but don't want a major deterioration in ride quality since I have to deal with snowbelt road conditions. I am thinking of using Audi sport springs and either Koni adjustable or Bilstein Sport shocks. I used Bilstein Sports on my Corrado and was very happy with the results.
I realize that for this price, I could get coil-overs, but am not sure I want that firm a ride. I did see that HPA Motorsports in Langely, B.C.
sells KW coil-overs, anyone using these?
I retrofitted the bilstein and sport springs to my 97 a4 1.8tq and love it. Firmness is the same as the OEM sport package but is more controlled due to the bilstein shocks.

I would suggest the Vortrag Motorsports Koni Coil-Over, www.vortrag.com you can get more info from Cathleen.
I am also looking for a similar upgrade for my 2.8. Many have gone with
the H&R/Bilstein combo. I was quoted 705 from shox.com...I also have been
doing research on the archives and called H&R and both say 1.5"front and 1"rear drop.
from the stock set up in the 2.8. I've also driven a car with this upgrade, but in a 1.8, and didn't seem to feel that it was any harsher than my car with the stock suspension. But i do think the 1.5" front drop may be too extreme for my tastes..i'm still undecided. if i could find a middle ground in drop btw factory sport and h&r with equal quality, I will probably go with it.
what is the price for the stock springs? And do you know what the drop would be with the bilsteins(still 20mm?).
good luck,

1998 springs for sale now in a4.org classifieds-is there a difference b/t the 1.8 and 2.8 quattro springs???
The shox.com price seems competitive-are these the bilsteins with the adjustable spring perches(up only on front, up/down on rears)? Autobahnint.com quote slightly higher~$710
if you're talking about the factory sport springs, i think that
they're different b/c i believe audi takes into account the
weight difference btw the two cars.
I actually questioned H&R about their springs and why
they didn't have specific ones for the two different models
and they said that the springs were originally made
for the 2.8, since it was available first. He seemed honest
and quite knowledgeable. I wish i had the number on me
i'll post it if i find it. I've e-mailed many people on this board
who've posted info on the H&R/bilstein combo and have only
received great reviews. If you'd like i can forward you their
comments.
I heard that the bilsteins only had adjustable perches on rear but i
may be wrong. But I do think that there is only one type of
bilstein sport shocks for a4 quattro cars, atleast with the H&R sport springs.
Did you find out what the drop would be with the OEM sport and Bilstein's?
