My A4 arrived this Friday morning at the dealer. They told me it will 1-2 days to 'PDI' the car before delivery to me on Monday or Tuesday. What do the dealers do for 1-2 days to prep my car? I was hoping it would take 1/2 a day to check the car I would be able to take possession later this afternoon.

Should take only a few hours tops, unless they're backlogged. They must sell alot of cars!
CraigB

PDI is what they do to your car after it comes off the truck from the port and before they let you have it.
There is a long list they have to go through to check your car out. Basically they go through and put all the fuses in, activate the radio and alarm systems, remove all packing materials, make sure the fluids are all full, etc.
A lot of the time involved depends on how busy the service department is, and how many cars they receive in their shipments. We'd get shipments of 30-40 cars at times and it would take a week to get the PDIs all done.
If it's taking 1-2 days they probably have a lot of service appointments that they need to take care of before PDI-ing your car. Their priority is customers who already have their cars.
I can't belive they told you the car was there and then told you to wait for the PDI. At the dealer I worked for, we only told the customer the car was there after the PDI had been performed. The clients seemed much happier that way.
JohnS

I know, I had my car prepped as I waited. I still have sand under the hood, all kinds of grease inside. Since I made them hurry - I am not complaining. But if you give them 2 days, you should expect your car to be CLEAN in and out.
Tomasz
