Hello,
I have a few question's about the two choices out
there. Through the archives there are two different opinions on the Panasonic 801 changer.

Some say it works fine while others claim the sound doesn't work on the right or left side, can't remember right now! I also know you need an adapter to hook it up, that's fine. Also are there any problems with CD #7 & #8 with the controls on the radio, again the archives isn't clear on the subject either.

Other option is Clair auto parts, the CD changer they list is it a Audi factory changer or a Panasonic unit. I wrote them with a few question's the person who replied seems to answer one question at a time?!?!? The reason I ask is because it is easier for me to purchase the 801 since I live in Canada.

Thank you,
Nick

I just installed the 801 in my 99.5 A4. I purchased it from Autotoys for $218 (US). It came with a Blitzsafe adapter (the first adapter was wired upside down, but that's another story). There are no problems with it; however, the installation is not bolt in like the 601. The 801 is about 3/4" narrower and the bolt pattern is different. You have to 1.) notch the bracket where the plug goes in 2.) drill 2 extra holes 3.) cut/plane/notch a piece of wood to take up the 3/4" gap. Once installed it works great. If I have time next week I'll add the 801 stuff to Yan's great FAQ.
