Are the roads and major highways generaly kept sanded/salted/plowed well enough that a RWD car w/ snows (and an experienced driver) would have no problems or is there such quantity of snow fall that only the SUVs come out during the bad storms? I drove a Z28 Camaro w/ all-season tires for 4 NY/Boston winters and didn't have too many problems, but I've heard Chicago has significantly greater snow fall and that AWD was the only way to go. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think our winters are any worse than NE winters. I don't know this first-hand though, just from being a weather geek.

...and even ****ter tires. I may have to break down and look at the brakes though before it snows, they are getting pretty bad.
No worries, you'll be fine on all seasons.

I ordered an optima red top, but I think I'm gonna hold off on the relocation for now becuase it'll probably cost me another $250 to do it the way I want to...

but I determined that it was gonna cost me ~$250 on top of the optima red I just bought to make it the way I want it...
So, I figured I'd wait...
However, I'm heading to vegas on thursday so maybe I'll come back with a little extra dough and change my mine...but the wiring kinda confuses me so, we'll see...

If I get in & decide on one of the Chicago area MBA programs, I'll def hit you up for info on housing. You've been very helpful so far, so why stop at good club info ;)

I love AWD cars however.. If you live in downtown chicago you will be find in almost anything 98% of the time as long as you are careful with the correct tires.

if you do well on the MBA courses then it will help a lot with admission. I went that route a couple years ago when I had no work experience.

This will be my first winter in the Audi I bought for the AWD. I live way out where the snow can pile up. I drove several RWD cars with all season tires through the worst Chicago had to offer. It wasn't fun, but it wasn't impossible. FWD works like a snowmobile for most rides. Very few days have I pushed the magic button on the Suburban for 4wd. There are no mountains here, just mountains of traffic.

....by anytime. I have to wrench the pink truck one day soon (maybe even tonight).
Traffic is going to suck balls today so I am going to try to sneak out of the orifice shortly after lunch....

Always the first couple snows of the year the ditches are littered with overconfident SUV drivers. They think since their SUV stepped up their manhood it will also make them unstoppable (just like the H2 commercials). They all fail to realize that when Newtons law of motion gets a hold of you there is no stopping you from sliding into that ditch on a curve because you're going too fast or from stopping in time from smashing into something or someone else.
Not a knock on you, just an observations I make every year.

When overconfident morons are driving them. It's also fun to burn them at stop lights when they laugh at the silly little sports car that can't get any traction in the snow :-]
