They are about the same price... 2.8 would be quieter, smoother, more powerful, likely to last longer. Drove a 1.8TQ yesterday and power was fine but it was a bit 'buzzy". Dealer only gets FWD 2.8 on special order- no way to test drive. Any input from the Audi experts?

I am definitely going to be ordering an A4 5-speed in February. Plan on ordering Bose, sunroof, sport package, and head airbags. 2.8 w/Quattro getting too expensive, and I want to get the most for my money otherwise!

I guess part of your decision depends on whether you live somewhere where quattro would really show its value. In Los Angeles, quattro would still improve handling and weight distribution, but I would get the 2.8 and its luxury features (power seats, wood trim, smoother engine) if faced with your choice. The FWD 2.8 is even quicker and nimbler than the 2.8 quattro. Of course, this is not to say that it is superior to the quattro version.

If you find the 1.8T a little to "buzzy" then go for the 2.8. Hell, it's only $1,600 more for the Quattro. GO FOR IT!!!

You won't be happy with the 1.8T and you'll end up "chipping it" and having to deal with dealer hassles over warranty issues with a chipped 1.8T with a shortened life.

Quattro option costs about $1750 but on a year old car it adds about $3000 worth of value according to the NADA book. This margin diminishes over the years but for the first several years it's not only a free option, it makes money for you.

Besides, you'll love it - especially if you drive ever drive in snow or mud etc.
