I'm looking to get some better sound out of the Bose system... mainly, right now, the high/mid range of the system is starting to annoy me... highs are sometimes too high... any suggestions as to what to replace and what to upgrade to? I'm probably lookin to spend under $250... I know next to nothing about car audio and any help would be appreciated... I'm also probably gonna try to do the job myself (figure it'd be a good learning experience)... so an idea of what might be needed would also be helpful... thanks a bunch!

In general any bose factory upgrade runs speakers at a far different ohm load than aftermarket speakers. What this means is you have to replace the amplifier the speakers use as well as the speakers. Granted i havent BOUGHT my a4 yet (this month) and cant guarentee this for sure but as a car audiophile in all the other cases i can think of... mazda and nissan for sure... they cant just be "swapped" out.

yep, the system is equalized for the type of speakers. Sound will be terrible.

i think they are 6 ohm speakers or 12 ohm, plus the amp is propriatary for bose drivers. I dont remember all the details.... i am trying to avoid the bose package so i can go aftermarket....

(image dynamics seperates...) plug plug....

Install some speaker arrangement in order to replicate the Bose's impedance. three 4-ohm speakers wired in line would give a 12-ohm load, but then you have the EQ issue (replace amp?)and where would three speakers fit wothout messing up the interior.
