In 205/50HR17 size. I'll post a couple updates on what I think of them--one right after install, and another after I encounter snow. I got them from Tirerack and am having them shipped to a local installer.

By the way...everyone keeps saying that Dunlops are wider than Bridgestones. In this case, anyway, the 205/50/17s appear about as wide as the Bridgestone 225/45/17s, at least at the area around the rim. (Meaning I don't think there's any more chance of rim damage than with the OEMs.) The handling is a little bit worse...but that's to be expected. On the other hand, for what they are, they're pretty good. The handling penalty isn't too bad...obviously you can do MUCH better on decent summers, but these are an acceptable substitute during these conditions. By worse handling...I mean the car is a little more likely to wander over rough surfaces...if you swing the steering wheel from side to side, there's just a little bit more sway in the car. I'll post another update after encountering adverse conditions. Anyway...as far as summer tire sizes...I'll probably stick with 17s...not sure if I'll try and go with wider wheels/tires than stock or not. We'll see. S4ORD 10-18-2000, 07:42 AM and 70* outside. My M2s are hanging in the garage until at least the beginning of Nov. I need to try and finish off the RE040s before the snow flies. BTW, where did you have them mounted and what did they charge you for mount and balance? Thanks, Vic CobaltJacket 10-18-2000, 04:38 PM Had I had 4 good tires I would have waited a little bit. srosie 10-20-2000, 11:42 AM Michelin Pilot Alpin 225/55. Went with the 16"s for the winter. Narrower width than 17" sport rims will cut into the snow better. Will definately keep you posted, assuming it ever snows ;-) srosie '00 A6 4.2sport CobaltJacket 10-20-2000, 04:02 PM |
