I've recently noticed that under certain circumstances (like a slow, sharp turn over bumps) an occasional thump and slight looseness/play in the steering wheel/front suspension. It's very slight, but noticeable. Another case is if standing still, turning the steering wheel one way and then the other results in a very slight thump.
This may be totally normal (I hope). Anyone have this? Any comments? Thanks in advance.
Tom
'98 1.8TQMS Silver/Ecru

I have the same thing. I don't feel it when going over bumps, but I do feel it when I turn the wheel. My dealer said that it is normal, they termed it gear lash. I don't really hold my dealer in high regard, but I don't think that the problem is getting any worse, so I'm not too worried. Ask your dealer about it next time you are in and be sure to let us know what you find out.
Rick K
96 2.8M

...in both the A4 and my 90Q. Since both do it, I figure it's normal. Anything the A4 does that I've experienced in the 90Q is audimatically categorized on my "normal" list. :-)
Charles
