The dealers received an Audi Technical Service Bulletin, number 01-98-07, issued 8th December 1998 (US & Canada only) which detailed the exact procedure for reprogramming your remote central locking and window control functions at your request. It also specifically stated that you are allowed one free reprogramming under warranty. *Do not take "no" for an answer; they *are required* to do this for you and have been instructed to do so by AoA.
HTH,

They told me that if you reprogram the car to lock automatically at 15mph I would loose the one beep horn when I arm my car? is this true? has anyone done this to their car? same with the power windows, they said I would loose the security of having the driver side opening up w/o the other doors when I first disarm it? does anyone know the real answers?
Kevin
If you check the FAQ about reprogramming the control module on this site, it looks like all options are independantly programmable. The dealers seem to be full of it, and I will take Roger's advice and go back to my dealer when time allows.

Basically, it looks to me like you start out with a base number which is dependant on the type of radio you have. Then you simply add/subtract certain values to/from the base number in order to add/remove options. After this, you end up with a final number which is programmed into the control module. I wish I had the equipment to do this myself. :)

The FAQs on coding the contro module I wrote have the options listed to allow you to choose exactly what features you want and code accordingly. I was amazed after I first posted the FAQs at the opposition the dealers seemed to put up over the coding. Now, a little over a year and a half after the first coding experiences, it looks like there's another wave of interest in coding control modules. So, here are a few pointers...
- Take a copy of the FAQ with you to the dealer and point out exactly which coding you want performed.
- Take a copy of the TSB Audi has provided at tech.vw.com which will allow them to code for the auto lock feature.
- Say something like "I would like to re-code my control module like the TSB says I can, but could you use this code, instead?" In a really nice, friendly way.
- Offer to let them keep the copy of the FAQ and TSB for later use.
- Send me an email (johns@a4.org) and let me know if your local dealership was 'coding friendly' or not. I started making a database of the friendly dealers last year but didn't finish. I need to update it.
Good luck,
John

The TSB only applies to automatic central locking at 10mph, and automatic unlocking when key removed from the ignition. It says *NOTHING* about windows up/down.

Dealer charged me $16 (USD). No complaints here, as they did what I asked without hesitation. If you read the TSB carefully you will note that it only applies to reprogram to lock doors at 10 mph, it does not cover other combinations.
For those of you thinking of this combination, the only thing I don't like about the one touch unlock of doors is that now when I unlock the trunk (with key) I have to manually relock it (key or remote). Also unlocking the trunck unlocks all the door locks, I'll get used to it.
