OK, my allroad has been upgraded with a Symphony II and a Bluetooth module.

I had a system in there before that wasn't doing it for me. The sub was a temp wooden box that I kept having to take out for dog transpo, and it would move around with hard cornering. The amp was a sweet-sounding 40x4, but it did not have enough gumption for the woofer.

So we just upgraded it as follows:

- Dynaudio System 242GT components

- DLS A5 three-channel amplifier

- DLS Iridium 10 sub

I'm biased, but I think it sounds great. The imaging in the C5 is really good due to the door panel tweeter provision, but the tonality and dynamics are now very good.

A couple of pics of my allroad audio system

I've been thinking of doing something similar. The stock Qlogic box in my trunk sounds fine, and I have quick release connectors on it, but I'm thinking of tucking the woofer in out of the way. I like the way that your custom box may be removed if you need every cubic inch of trunkspace.

Question: Are you planning to place a carpeted cover atop the amplifier? Any provision (such as a thermostatically controlled muffin fan) to assist convection cooling of the amp?

I've never really been a Dynaudio fan because I always thought they sounded a little weak on the upper end of the sound spectrum but I hear the newer ones are supposed to be pretty good. I also hear that the Dyns are pretty good as far as midbass output.

How would you compare them to a set of Morel Elites?

Let me start a new thread on that.

...the Morel cast frames are as hard to install as the Dyne cast frames. The Dyne cast frames do sound a little better running full range in my ersatz-car-door demo board, but with a sub and a highpass crossover filter, I don't see that being an issue.

The midbass is VERY good... not quite as good as in a B6 or A3 with the speaker actually bolting to metal instead of the to back of the door panel in my A6... but very good. The sub is very hard to localize and it sound most of the time as if it were in my heater core area of the dash :)

I've been looking at doing exactly what you've done in my '05 allroad.

Couple of quick questions for you. What kind of enclosure volume were you able to get out of the fiberglass box? Seems that most of the 10" drivers require about .65 cu/ft or so. I was wondering if I could pull that off with an mdf box? Is the subwoofer enclosure permanently mounted to the vehicle, or is the fit snug enought to hold it in place?

Now that I'm rambling, is this something you could replicate and ship to Texas?

Thanks,
Brad

I think we were around 0.65 or 0.7.

I don't think you can get anything worthwhile with MDF or we would have gone that route :)

There is no mounting - it's in there so snug, it is work to get out. If you really wanted to mount it that way, you'd need to put a wood or metal bracket in there, load the empty enclosure into it, and put screws from the inside into the bracket or panel.

We are working on a way to make it replicable.
