...just goes back to the beginning of the current song, can get it to work properly once in a blue moon. Is this behaviour common?
I upgraded the FW to 2.15 since SouthBoroAudiGuy said 2.17 didn't add anything Audi-wise.
HU is Symphony II
Ipod is 5.5G - 30GB Video
Flashing firmware is always a nail-biter at best. So I am wondering if there is anything to gain (or in this case lose bugs) by moving to v2.17?

on nearly all stereo devices I've come across normally takes you back to beginning of current song. There's very few that takes you to previous song with one press. You probably either pressed it twice without knowing, or the switch "bounced" on your single press, making the second press for you. I don't think it's a bug thing.

Say you are on Track 14... then you hit it twice to (hopefully) take you to the beginning of Track 13.
With the IceLink you will see it switch to Track 13, then bounce right back to Track 14.... in most cases.

...in executing commands. As such, the behavior of button presses is not always what you'd expect. I've learned that if you slow down on the button presses (i.e., hold it down a bit longer, delay a bit between subsequent presses, etc.) it will behave much more as you want it to.
Give it a go - once you get the hang of it, your frustration will decrease.

When you paid $150 (as I did originally), you talk yourself into being happy with it.
It's not a perfect solution, but I still think it's the best out there for the buck. Cradle alone is worth $30 compared to what else is out there.
