I have a B5 A4 and I'm trying to run the power cable through my firewall but, I'm not sure where to do it. I have found three possible places.

1) The rubber grommet on the passenger side of the firewall. It has two small tubes running through it already. The problem is I'm not sure what they are and I don't want to run my speaker wire next to something that gets heated up.

2) The center grommet. This one has a bunch of stuff using it and looks like a pain in the butt to find the opening on the interior side.

3) The ECU box. This looks like it could be the easiest but, I'm not sure about running a power cable that close to the ECU. It just doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

I've looked all over the web for ideas on where to go through the firewall. It seems that the B5's don't have the same empty grommets that have been used in every other Audi project that I have found. I'm looking for some ideas or suggestions.

If I can figure out where to go with the wires I plan to photograph everything and make a nice little tutorial on how to run the wires in a B5 like mine.

I went ahead with option three. If I run into problems later, I can pull the wiring back out.

I also pulled up all the trim and ran all the cables. The only thing left is the remote turn on for my amp. Problem is that I don't know what to wire that too. My stock HU won't work. Anyone have any ideas? I don't have the Bose speakers or I would use that amp for the remote.

I though about using something in the tail lights to keep all the cables in the trunk where they can be easily hidden.

havent had a problem yet in 2.5 years. I think that is the most common place to go through.

Yeah, there is one giant bundle of wires jammed in there. I can't tell what is what. I'm still trying to figure out where the wires are from the amp to the speaker above it. I'm going to assume that the remote turn on is the thick white wire.

You should only have 8 wires on the connector.
2 for the right speaker
2 for left & right pre-outs
1 for pre-out screen
1 perm live
1 ground
1 remote on

The wires from the amp to the left speaker are not on the connector.
Just unplug the connector and use a 12v testing screwdriver to find 12v that switches with the HU.
