First, let me say many thanks to SouthboroAudiGuy for his great post on his iPod install. I basically printed his post out and followed the instructions he laid out.

When Jr. was taking his nap on Saturday, I took a run at installing an Icelink adapter for my '01 A6. I have a 5.5 gen video iPod (80 gig version), and I know that there has been some discussion on whether the Icelinks are compatible, and I will confirm that they are. I also got my Icelink on ebay when they were blowing them out for about $15-$20. Also ordered the Panavise mount from Enfig for $22.

I did make some modifactions to Southboro's install guide however. Since I already had a the 3 separate 20 pin connector on the back of my Sym I, I decided to take the connector adapter out of the equation, and just run the cd changer wiring out of the interface module into the blue piece of the 20 pin connector. Little less "junk" behind the head unit this way. Since I already have some pre-outs running from the Sym I, I had to give the headunit a nice steady push to get it back in. All in all, works like a champ. I do get a little low volume engine whine now, but only noticeable at lower levels. At normal listening levels it cannot be heard. Not sure what the cause is for this. Anyway, thanks again Southboro!!!

The $15 blowout on eBay made this a no-brainer for anybody thinking about putting an iPod into many, many Audis (A4s, A6es, TTs). That company got wise and is now clearing them out for more like $70, but it's still a great deal (I paid $150 for mine and don't regret a penny of that). Half the price of the current DICE unit, with only minor differences in functionality.

Good luck to other's attempting this.
