Header explains the questions.
I am in the market for a new Audi A4.
I was specially concerned about the reliability
of the 1.8 vs the 6 cylinder 2.8.
Also I went to one of the Audi dealer in south
Jersey and got a quote of 33,400 which was
1750 above the invoice (for the 2.8).
It had options like the leather and xenon lights
that I did not need. I was looking for other places which might have exactly what I need.

Also, conventional wisdom says that the turbo
charged 1.8 will be less reliable than the 2.8.
What have your experiences like?

I was also considering the BMW 323.
The only concern was the performance of
the 323 in snow compared to the Audi.

Would appreciate your responses.

In my opinion... if you are not one to chip the 1.8T and can afford the 2.8, go for the 2.8. My only significant 2 problems with my '98 1.8T had to do with the turbo system.

By all means, however, drive both cars to help decide for yourself.

Me, I went for the 1.8TQMS, and I don't intend to chip.

I can't comment reliabilty since my 2.8 is less than 2 weeks old, but I was originally looking for a 1.8 at Cherry Hill Imports, and they wouldn't give me the car for less than $1700 over invoice and the payments where too high. I decided to go to Atlantic VW/Audi near Atlantic City and paid $400 over invoice for the 2.8 (loaded except for trip computer, 1.8 only had sports package and convience package). The payments were also the same as the 1.8 offered at the other dealer. It might be worthwhile giving them a call. I don't have the number but you can get from audiusa's web site. Ask for Carlton Borlando.... nice guy.

I second the motion for those guys. I dealt with Rocco DiAntonio
He was a great guy. Gave me $1000 over invoice on my 1.8T way
back when I ordered in Feb. while other dealers wouldn't budge below
$1500. Also, I expected the car in late June but got it a month early
in May. Was I ever suprised. Anyway, I think you won't regret
checking them out.
