View Full Version : What does the ski bag look like? Is it worth the cost or will anything work just as well ? Stu S. 09-30-1999, 04:02 PM nt Audiboy 09-30-1999, 04:30 PM On my friend's A4, the most ski's we put in it is 3 pairs. Any more, will rip the sack apart. This sack is hidden behind the rear arm rest. It is a long tubular sock that extends slightly behind the front seats. One good thing about it is that it keeps dirty or wet skis from getting in the interior, plus also keeps all seats up so you can sill have 4 adults in the car. But since I carry skis and snowboards, if I take my A4 up to the snow, then I only carry 2 other people, otherwise, I use my SUV. That's because I'll just flip the smaller back seat down. Draw back is gotta secure the stuff in the trunk to avoid flying objects, stow away those wet clothing that could stink, and live with the weaker bass as the rear sound waves cancel the front MitchC 09-30-1999, 05:08 PM The ski sack is a big vinyl/plastic expandable sack that comes out from behind the rear seat armrest. It is excellent if you only need to carry 2 pair (maybe 3 pairs) of skis. You use the rearseat center seatbelt to secure the ski sack so the skis don't move. No dirt or water from the skis gets into the A4 cabin and no wind resistance/noise and roof scratches from a roof rack. When done using the ski sack it folds back behind the rear armrest...out of site. I have also heard of people using the ski sack to carry 2 x 4 lumber. You can only get the ski sack as part of the All Weather package which also includes heated seats, heated windshield washer nozzles, and driver door locks. Like Audiboy, I just carry all my gear in travel bags and fold down a seat. It could be useful if you have four people in the car, but you wouldn't be able to hold four pairs of skiis in the sack anyways, so there's no point. Better off buying a rack anyways if you're traveling with a full car. There's a hole in the back of the seat panel, which is NOT there if the car didn't come equipped with the bag. There's also a velcro attached cover which holds the bag in place behind the armrest. You'd have to cut the hole, install the cover, and mount the bag. I kinda bet Clair is just selling the bag itself, to replace one that got torn or something like that. I doubt it's really an aftermarket item. I ski 60 days a year. I've had 4 Quattro's that had the bag, and 2 (including present one) that didn't. My new S4 (someday!) will have it as well. In all that time, the ONLY time I ever opened it was to check it out on the very first car that had it. From there on out, I got a set of Thule racks for my skis and bikes and never bothered with the bag again. After all - afraid of skis dripping grunge on the roof if you have racks? Hey -- you're driving in SNOW! The whole damned car is gonna look like @@$#@ after one drive in the snow.
