Ok, please bear with me because there are potentially MANY issues to discuss here and your help in answering ALL of them will be IMMENSLY helpful.

Let me tell you about my day. Today was going to be the day to POWER UP. Went to a club members house for some VAG-COM work and got the stereo out of Bose mode: CHECK. Then got to work on installing my two new Stinger SF4 cooling fans. The guys at Best Buy sold me a Bosch Giant Mini Relay or Mini Giant something like that and gave me instructions on how to install it. YELLOW goes to 12V power (which I wired directly to my RF power distribution block), BLACK goes to ground (which I wired directly to my RF ground distribution block), WHITE goes to the turn-on lead from my H/U, BLUE goes to turn-on leads from my two amps and the two fans, RED they told me was unused and I should "cap it off"...HERE COMES A QUESTION...(just trying to give thorough information, sorry). The stinger fans had one RED wire and one blue wire. I assumed the red was power and the blue...I was unsure about. I first though it would be a ground wire, but then wondered, given its color, if it was the wire that should go to the turn-on lead from the relay and the red wire should go to the RF power distribution block. I originally had planned to send the RED wire on the fans to the BLUE wire on the relay and wire the BLUE wires from the fans to the ground dist. block. I wasn't sure what to do since there were no instructions, and I'm impatient...so I guessed and assumed the blue wires from the fans to be turn-ons and wired them to the blue turn-on from the relay. How did I do here?

Then, it was time for power. I wired the 4AWG ground wire that goes to the ground dist. block to a screw that attaches the tie downs in my Avant to the body. I then went to the front and hooked my power lead to the battery. BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! !!
I immediately got a buzz coming from the handsfree speaker in my driver door and the LED on the amps were ON!! I knew that the amps should not have been on without the stereo being on. WHAT THE HECK!! So then I turn on the radio and all the sound I got was coming from the handsfree speaker. I then realized I had yet to hook up the small YELLOW wiring harness to the line-out port on the back of the stereo. So I pulled the stereo, pulled out the old YELLOW harness and plugged in my new one that has the preout for my FR/RR/SUB and ORANGE turn-on and Mystery two whit wires that Continental Imports told me did not apply to my installation and were thus not used. Then I turned-on the stereo again and FRIGGIN' BUZZ-A-PALOOZA!!! BUZZ*POP*BUZZ*WHINE. Not good. My fans were also not spinning. Nothing smelled funny and all fuses were good. WHERE HAVE I GONE WRONG?!?! How can I fix this? Seems like ONE of the weak links could be the relay? Did I mess this up?

CALGON TAKE ME AWAY!!

caused your amps to turn on; by connecting the positive lead to the red wire and the blue wire to the remote turn on lead you inadvertantly caused your amps to turn on.

fans usually only have 2 wires, power and ground, hook it up accordingly. also with a dc fan, if you hook up the wires backwards it will, most of the time, just spin the opposite direction.

I dont know about your instruction but ALL the aftermarket audio equipment I have purchased for my car has the same colored wiring for the same meaning.

Yellow- Positive battery lead
Red- On with accessories only
Black- Ground
Blue- Remote turn on of some kind
White- I havent run into

As for your relay, it does not need to be wired to both your amps and your head unit if you are only using it to turn on your fans. Not knowing the specifics of your relay personally I would:

connect the black wire to ground
connect the yellow wire to positive lead
connect the blue wire to remote turn on
connect the red wire to the fans red wire
connect the blue wire on the fan to ground

hope that helps, like i said before without being there and knowing more specifics thats all i can give you.

that they told me to hook up the amp turn-on leads to the relay so that everything (fans and amps) would all be controlled by the relay. It sure was difficult getting all those blue wires into one connection.

So you think that the red wire in the relay, that I am presently NOT using would be sufficient to power the two fans?

Well, Got info from the company I bought the fans from and found out the blue was ground and NOT turn-on. So I just got finished rewiring the fans, amps, and relay. My confusion now is why the amps turn on and the fans start whirling the minute I turn the ignition to postion 2 I guess even when the stereo is not on. I assumed that the amps and fans would only turn on once the stereo itself was switched on. Is that a misconception on my part? Is there possibly another way to wire it so that the amps/fans only come on when the radio is switched on? I am under the impression there are two different types of turn-on leads.

At this point I still have noise when I turn the car on regardless if the stereo is on or not. I'm not hearing blinkers or anything else electrical in the system so I guess that is positive. I DO hear the alternator though (I know Iknow, it IS part of the electrical system, I think you know what I mean). I haven't properly set the gains yet on the amps, I'm not sure I ever really understood the correct way to do that, but at this point I would like to get rid of the noise.

ONE MORE THING!!...I am getting sound from my handsfree speaker LOL. I left it hooked up hoping that I may be able to add a handsfree setup and use that speaker, but I guess now that my stereo is no longer in Bose mode, it's receiving the stereo signal. Is there any way to disconnect that speaker without having to remove the door panel and disconnect it at the speaker? What d would I be looking for on the back of the stereo that would lead to that handsfree speaker?

THANKS GUYS!!

sometime they wire it with the head unit, and sometimes they wire it with the accessory fuse panel that would turn on when you turn your key

i dont thinkt there's a way to disconnect that without removing your door panel, its easy to take off and if you need instructions let me know.

to the orange wire that was on the pre-out adapter I bought. Kinda sucks it's ALWAYS on.

Trust me, I know how to get the panels off, I was just hoping I was DONE DOING SO!! Looks like I'm going back in.

Turns out that I am hearing my brakes when I apply them.
