OK, here is everyone's chance to give input on bits and pieces of their own setup so I can piece together what I want. I have a 2004.5 A4 6-spd quattro. I have done searches and no one has exactly what I'm looking for as their setup, so hopefully you all can post links you know of for the various things I'm asking..
I've been waiting for Audi to come out with a Y cable so I can hook NAV/DVD through my factory headunit (their purpose for this cable was for phatnoise) WITHOUT losing my factory XM. But so far, no go from them, and I can't wait. So I'm gonna try aftermarket. Here is what I want... I don't need speaker/amp advice. I only want to get word on compatible control/head unit/DVD/nav units that will work together, and the parts needed to mount them in the center console.
Any advice/links/reviews, I thank you in advance for! I want to get DVD, NAV (that won't NOT be there if I have a video in), CD-changer, and XM.
So, here goes:
1. 2-hole single din X 2 faceplate to take up the stock headunit area and accept (2) separate single din units. The color/texture must look stock, not shiney. I also need word on anything behind the faceplate that I'll need to mount two separate single din units.
2. Top unit needs to be a pop-out motorized screen head-unit, preferably touch screen, and idealy a DVD player that can send video output to alternate screens, so I can have a video feed without losing a separate external-in NAV feed. I ideally would like to switch back and forth from DVD-video to DVD-NAV at will without having to re-insert discs (I know not to watch video while moving...), and I'd like to be able to bring up NAV on main screen without interrupting video feeds to alternate screens (kids will freak if friggen' Shrek gets interrupted)..
3. Bottom unit snould be either an integrated DVD-based navigation unit that can be controlled by the top unit, or preferably a multi-disk CD changer, if they come in single-din size anywhere (in either case, the other of the two units *DVD/NAV or CD-Changer* will mount in glove box, so if the nav unit is at the faceplate, the cd-changer is in the glovebox, or vise-versa).
4. Ultimately, what I'd like to do is have constant NAV available to my main screen through that separate DVD-rom, switchable to DVD-video from the headunit itself whenever I want. Also, I'd like to be able to have NAV at any time on the main screen and still feed DVD video to alternate screens (like headrests for back seat). And I'd like to have voice command of NAV even if video screen is being used to control something else.
I don't care about AM/FM radio. Don't use it and never plan to again!
My big final question is:
Can factory XM unit be run through XM-ready aftermarket headunits? Or will I need to eBay my factory XM?
PS- I know I can find a place to do this for the big ching $$$. But I've done custom installs before, with video, and I can do it again with good advice. I have not ever done NAV, so that's the factor that makes me fish for info... thanks!

My vote for you would be the Pioneer AVIC-N1. It stores up to six points in memory from the NAV dvds, then you pop 'em out and insert a DVD or MP3/CD. Coolest part to me is that you can pump "Finding Nemo" to rear monitors and wireless headphones while listening to XM up front and still use NAV (because it's in memory). You'll need the Pioneer XM tuner, but you can buy the twin-connector XM antenna extension so you can use the sharkfin A4 antenna.

Turbo-Flipper found a B6 A4 DIN adapter at autotoys.com I believe. I know he has it installed and has been very happy with it.

Before you eBay the factor XM tuner, let's talk. I'm trying to decide whether to buy the factory XM tuner or put my Kenwood/Delphi SkyFi combo in my 2004 A4.

Pioneer has a website for the AVIC-N1 @ http://www.avic-n1.com/

It's about $2000 for the unit including everything for the NAV functionality.

LMK what you think and what you want for the OEM XM tuner.

It's a double-din dual zone, and if I hook up their NAV system to it, it does that all, too. And with double din, it looks more like nav+.
only problem is that Kenwood only supports Sirius, and I'm used to and like XM. But looks-wise, the Kenwood is nice. Fills out that area nicer than single din. that's kind of why I wanted two single-din units, top and bottom, just to make that area not look so bare.

The autotoys conversion includes a cubby for the spare DIN or you can put a DSP in the second DIN location and still be less than the $3600 for the Kenwood. Plus, don't forget, Kenwood is Sirius so you'll have to use the Kenwood multi-changer/aux-in adapter which is another $70.

I run a Kenwood deck and a Kenwood receiver at the house, but the Pioneer is really hard to touch for the features and price. As much as I love Kenwood, the $1600 difference buys damn nice speakers, 5-ch amp and a JL Audio W7 sub!

Pieced together I can get it done for around $2,000... retail may be $3600, but real life is a lot less.
I just can't deny the double din look, though. single din to me just looks naked... not enough space being used. Don't want that empty pocket that the show with the second single din.
I'm tossed up, believe me, but we'll see. Both look great.

I'm biased toward XM, but I did have Sirius as well through my Kenwood. I thought Sirius sucked and that was when XM still had commercials on the music channels! I don't know if you have XM at home as well, but you can buy a Delphi SkyFi and transfer your subscription from the factory XM tuner to the Delphi. Then you can have XM in the car and at home!

Use Kenwoods multi-input adapter (can't remember the part #, but I have one) and bring the Delphi in as a Aux-in. You'll need the older dual-connector cradle or buy the 2-to-1 adapter off xmfan.com along with an antenna extension cable. Bracketron or others carry brackets to mount the SkyFi next to the stereo on the passenger side.

So, how much do you want for the factory tuner? Send me an email! It will influence my decision whether I add a Hyper Grounding System and keep the factory deck or order the autotoys kit and put my Kenwood system in the new Audi.

I'm not too 'pooter-good, so how do I find your email to send you one?
I don't know what they factory stuff goes for, but my car is 2004.5 with non-bose, and I've had the car 2 months.
I'll check in to it and see. Let me know what you might offer.
This setup is going down in the next few weeks.
BTW- do you have a diagram of what the harnesses in the trunk go to? Like, I'd like to know which is the antenna, and which is whatever else I might use to connect aftermarket in the trunk.
Thanks!

For my email, just click my user name in this thread next to "Posted by." It's a hyperlink so it will launch your email editor. I have a pic of the trunk connections in my pic poster. The yellow and green connectors are the sat antenna leads. The XM tuner lists for $400 and I can get it online for $385. You're the seller, how much do you want for it? I want the best deal I can get... :-)

I already have a Kenwood deck I can put in as well, I'm just trying to decide which way to go. If I can find a single DIN guage holder, I'm going to go the Kenwood route. I want to mount boost and oil pressure guages above the deck.

I want to add guards to mine and paint them as well.

Did you buy the car to match your dog or the dog to match the car? Can't tell if it's a he or a she, but it's not a pup so you must have matched the car to the dog! ;-)

I did paint them with lots of flex added and bulldog adhesion promoter. They've held up for the last 2 months just fine.... Slight shade difference, but that's normal on painted plastic.
As for the dog, it's a she. Turns a year old this week. she was the runt. Her dad was 120lbs.
As for your email directions, I'm clicking on everything and it isn't working. My email for this place is wrong.
email me at wasson1@verizon.net
We'll deal...
