Jeff, great looking unit even though the price was a little higher than I was expecting.. ;)

Can this be plugged into the area behind the head unit instead of back by the CD Changer itself? I want to use this with an XM Radio system and the XM controller is right by the factory stereo. Let me know as you may have a customer... David

I was one of your first customers back in January with the 8-pin model and I love it. I do notice a couple of things though.

1. The CD display is all screwy. Sometimes it will show random track numbers and other times it will show random cd numbers.

2. Sometimes the display will show "HOT CD" and it doesn't happen only when I bump Outkast.

Are these just random consequences of the adapter telling the head unit the changer is hooked up? Other than these display issues, your work is awesome with crystal clear sound. I turn my ipod to bass reducer and the deck to even bass and my 6.5s really hit ;) Keep up the good work.

Peace,

Mark

changer from the H/U.

adds in more control, and a verification signal.
The 8-pin changer-H/U combo does not have this.
it's random noise the H/u cannot dechiper, it's OK, but annoying.

Your are lucky. My wife has an A4 with the 8-pin also, and that baseline audio quality is better also than the 13-pin. This is why IU had to make the preamp section in my new adapter.

All the parts can be sourced from the dealer and electronics stores. Sounds very easy in theory.

I guess if you have a TT..the CD changer is directly behind the drivers seat...which is a perfect fit for this device (nice work Jeff). However, for the rest of us...who have the 13 pin adaptor located in the trunk...this means that we have to run that 1/8 plug from the trunk to the center console for our aux music source.

Here are the parts needed: (I believe that only 8 pins of the 13 pin adaptor are needed.)

From the Audi dealer:

4A0 972 643B Blue - pos 13 - 20 (Blau part# 8-600-360-175) - this is a 8 pin adapator that uses female pins (see below). FYI - The Audi Symphony I/II/Nav+ head unit has the male pins.
000 979 131 or 000 979 131A - wires to fit in the connector (Female...I believe)

The pieces for the 13 pin plugs can be sourced here:
http://www.connectworld.net/cgi-bin/iec/02MPartMiniDIN.html

I believe you will need a male 13 pin plug...with only 8 pins used. I'm not sure (off hand) which pins from the 13 pin plug correspond to the 8 pins adaptor in the head unit. I have a picture of it somewhere...I know Jeff Bipes knows! This will probably cost $30 in parts...minus your labor. Food for thought.....how valuable is your time?

Also, I believe that blitzsafe has an adaptor that accomplishes the same thing..for $50+ bucks though.

Jeff: You could probably build these 8pin to 13pin adaptors and sell them for an extra charge. Of course, your intellectual property still resides in your special circuit board. Well worth the $175 - IMO. Again, nice work!!! I only wish this would work in my Nav+????<ul><li><a href="http://www.tvwiz.net/navigation/installb5.html">http://www.tvwiz.net/navigation/installb5.html</a</li></ul>

You would need 2 sets of 13-to-8 pin adapters, on each end.
Plus, genders are reversed. 8-pin changer is a male plug, 13-pin changer is female. They would be a male-to-male and a female to female set of adapters. Odd.

BTW only 9 pins are used on the 13-pin DIN and all 8 on the 8-pin.
Difference being no Data In circuit.

I'll look into it, but the demand may not justify this.

BTW- my source for 13-pin DIN connectors is *way* lower than the page you sent me, but thanks.

I'm gonna check out the Audi P/N's too.
