Now, the rear deck on the other hand...

because the floor panel will be denser, and will thus do a better job of reflecting instead of absorbing the sound waves.

I just started on my trunk last night, and did the passenger side wall and a small bit of the trunk floor. I intend to do all of the trunk area (at least all that I can access) for just this reason. I already have the rear deck and trunk lid done, so this is the next step for me.

Oh, and the deadening material used at the factory was complete garbage. Most of it was not even attached to the side panel - it just spanned all of the gaps in mid-air, instead of conforming properly. I'd wager that it was only 50% effective as a result. I ripped it all off and replaced it with the good stuff, which is much more pliable anyway.

I honestly doubt that anyone here could tell the difference between a car that had the trunk floor D-matted and one that didn't, either in ambient noise or noise generated by SPL from a sub. $.02

I'm going to do something with the rear deck however. Hvaen't decided whether I'll D-mat it or just put a thin layer of acoustic polyfill in there.

The trunk lid is probably worthwhile, though, also, if you haven't done that already. And, it's fairly easy to work with.

Underside of rear deck = dynamat. Top = thin layer of acoustic polyfill to isolate the plastic rtim top piece from the metal deck underneath.

how did you get access to the top of the rear deck....my install was done profesionally....i know how to remove the three bolts but how do you get the piece off...it seams as if there are clips, but i didn't want to brake them. i am going to dynamat the top of the rear deck so its not really visable from the trunk, a more flush look in my opinion.

i don't think the extra weight makes that much of a difference in my case, i don't track it...its my daily driving car.

would be difficult to dynamat the top

You remove the child-seat clip covers, remove the child-seat clips, and then pull the deck towards you. But because the seatbelts run through the deck, you have to find a way to stowe the deck while working back there, and that's kind of a PITA.

Remove the bottom seat portion and there is one bolt holding the seatbelt in. Pop that bad by and you can remove the deck altogether. I think I'll probably do that when I get to that part of the install.
