I recently got a used Concert II and it is AWESOME! BUT, it does not go on/off with the ignition and the parking lights do not work. I STFA a while ago and did not see anything about it, but after I got it, I found a post about the can-bus vs gala problem. Anybody have a way to get this to work fully??? I hate to get rid of it, but I am too anal to deal w/o the lights working at night even tho the display lights it up fine...

In 2002 VAG decided to go with a CAN bus system and what it means is that the ignition code as well as the illumination commands are actually sent to the HU via the bus system instead of a wire directly related to ignition and illumination.

Since your car does not have the CAN bus it can't send these commands to the HU so the HU has no way of telling if the car or the lights are on or off.

There would be a need to make an interface that would take the ignition lead and the illumination lead as the input and send fake commands to the radio accordingly. There is no such thing yet so unless you want/can develop such thing you're SOL.

No biggie - I will just sell it off. Other than those two problems, it actually is great HU...
