He went on to say that during the 'break in period' (which I guess he thinks is 20K),
there is a piston ring that requires a certain amount of friction to operate properly.
Using Synthetic is a great idea but the high quality of the oil and the smaller molecules over regular oil doesnt allow the piece to get enough friction.

I waited 9K miles and asked if it was enough but he didnt really seem to give an answer.

Anyone else get this information and how to they feel about the answer?

...because of valves seating properly. However, then someone pointed out to me that Porsches come from the factory with synth (not sure if this was true, but that's what they said).

I just hit 20K and will put Synth in.

I think than anything else involved with cars. I changed to Mobil 1 synthetic at 5K. I bet you will see more premium car brands like Porsche and BMW running synthetic oil right from the factory. Audi tells us the break-in period is 1,000 miles. So we should wait until 10 or 20 K to switch to a far superior lubrication product??? My feeling is this, after 5,000 miles is on an engine I want LESS FRICTION wherever possible, not more.
