View Full Version : How do you replace the Air Filter in a 1.8t? Dan 09-29-1999, 08:16 PM jasyn 09-29-1999, 08:26 PM click the link below. it's fairly simple. just remember to let the car cool down completely or you'll burn some skin off. i did. :) -jasyn 99.5 1.8tqms

link to faq

A. It took me a lot longer than I wanted, but it wasn't really that difficult. Check out the link from the Wett website. They show the installation of a RAMAIR filter, but it is the same procedure pretty much. I had trouble removing the plastic piece that runs from the front of the vehicle (grill) and then curves down near the passenger side of the vehicle. It took a little more force than I wanted to use. I found rocking it while pulling it up helped... just be careful not to break it.. the plastic is rather flexible. Pull out the side on the passenger side first, then slide out the front part of the piece (that is near the grill) after. I didn't remove the heat shield (I didn't want to accidentally drop the screws) but I wore gloves to make sure I didn't cut myself - that heat shield is sharp. A couple of the clips are hard to get at, but with the aid of a flathead screwdriver, it wasn't too bad. Also, be careful seating the filter... I had trouble replacing the clips and had to reseat my filter a couple of times so the cover would sit on properly. Good luck.
