It was a cool rainy day today and I noticed my passenger side mirror was fogged up. The driver side mirror was nice and clear. I thought to myself: "don't I have heated mirrors?"

When I got home, I touched my driver-side mirror and it was warm. I walked over to the passenger-side only to discover, it was cool: it's broken! I have a 1999 A4 (I believe it was built November 1998) so I have the heated mirors are automaticaly switched on when the ignition is on.

It looks like I have to make my second unscheduled trip to the dealer (1st was the common sunroof problem) to have them replace the mirror. According to the tech. bulletins, I should be getting one of the new mirrors with a thermo-switch that turns off the heat at 77F/25C and turns it back on if the ambient temperature drops to 59F/15C.

To keep myself from feeling badly about the whole thing... I just figure I'm upgrading my mirrors :-). Winter is just around the corner, and I'm looking forward to trying out the Quattro in the snow, and having clear mirrors. So, I won't wait too long to get it fixed...
