View Full Version : can some one please explain to me why you not supposed to run positive wire next to ECU? whats the STASIK_A4 08-20-2002, 04:44 PM wire can do what sort of damage? TIA HDClown 08-20-2002, 05:46 PM engine surging, pinging, substancially decreased performance. Many people do not have these problems though. Tbandido 08-20-2002, 07:38 PM I am sure there are engineers here how can give a better answer, but here goes. Any wire with electrical current flowing through it will have a magnetic field generated around the wire. A high power car audio amp can draw substantial current. It is the "right or left hand rule" in physics. This magnetic field can in turn cause electrical interference in adjacent wiring. This is best demonstrated why you should NEVER run an amp power cable next to the low-level RCA wires from your amp. You will get horrible noise through the stereo system. Now picture this same amp power cable next to your sensitive ECU that controls your engine's vital functions. You may hear no noise, but the chance of any interference is too great a risk in my opinion. If you are concerned about speaker whine, I am sure your engine not working will be even worse. It is not that hard to run the power cable away from the ECU, search the audio forum, many options are posted. 98.5TQMS

http://forums.audiworld.com/audio/msgs/13743.phtml</a

ChronoX4 08-21-2002, 07:04 AM Running a Amp power wire right under your ecu is a very bad idea. Run the wire atleast 6 inches away from the ecu. there is another gromet you can go through below and to the right under the ecu that is a sfe distance. |
