View Full Version : What exactly is the remote range fix and can I do it myself? Leszek 11-06-1998, 05:33 AM Brad Bilut 11-06-1998, 05:50 AM I'm not exactly sure, they put a range extender kit on my car, and my range has tripled. Steve S. 11-06-1998, 06:12 AM No Lezsek, I do not recommend you do it yourself. The dealer should fix
it, if you can prove it doesn't work well, under warranty.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM Greg K 11-06-1998, 07:35 AM Brad,
I did myself with a mechanic who hadn't done it before. It is covered under warranty.
You could probably reroute the existing antenna if you were up to it. That is all the fix is. You pull the remote locking unit - in the trunk RH side at the bottom (remove the Right side lining. The remote unit is in a black foam box at the bottom. There are 3 or 4 plugs - the smallest one carries the antenna leads (1 and 7, I think it is) one is a white braided cable.
When you get the upgrade kit it is just a new antenna but you could no doubt unravel the existing one and follow it all the way to the passenger side A pillar (you would need to remove the cover from inside the car).
Anyway, then you look in the trunk and on the rear, near the the spare at the back is a small rubber plug (about 8 inches from the remote locking unit. You will have to remove the black cover at the back end of the trunk to see this.
Drill a small hole through the rubber cap and fish the antenna through the hole (seal with silicone if necessary). Then run the antenna along in behind the bumper - return it before it gets ot the exhaust and tie it up with a cable tie. Put all the lining back.
Thats it. Remote range increases dramatically!!
GK
1998.5 2.8 30v Q 5spd (My range is great!) |
