I was driving my new 99.5 1.8Tqm (3 days old, less than 200 miles) on the freeway last night, everything was great, then I exited onto the local street. I came to a red light and put the car in neutral. when the light turned green, my car wouldn't shift into 1st gear, so I tried 2 nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th even Reverse! *UCK!!!! I was pissed!!! I turned on my Hazzard lights (I didn't think I would need it so soon) So I turned off my engine and restared the car, same ****, nothing! Tried it again, nothing!! I was freeking ready to call and give Audi a piece of my mind when I realized my freeking clutch was stuck all the way in. I bent down and pull it up. After that, I restarted the car and everything was fine. So I decided to drive home, on the way home it happened to me again, TWICE! but this time it was only stuck halfway down, I was able to pull it up with my left foot. First I thought it was stuck on the carpet or something but it couldn't be cuz it's way highter than the floor.

Well, I drove to work this morning but nothing yet so I'm still waiting to see.

Has this happened to anyone? I've owned a few cars that are manual trans. but this has never happened to me at all. What do you guys think?

Then got them to replace my master cylinder under warranty. Mine NEVER stayed all the way depressed though. It came back up about 1/2 way...this happened on about every 60-75 shifts...the dealer said they could not duplicate....I battled it out with them ..talked with an Audi Service Regional Rep...and finally convinced them to change it under warranty.

Do not dismay..it can be fixed...just don't let them do that "We cannot duplicate the problem" response.

Mine was a *little* more difficult to shift when new than it is now (10K miles), but I was always able to shift it, and have never experienced the problem you did. I can understand you being pissed about this; I think it's the exception, rather than the rule to this car.

Get it to your dealer. If they're good, they will take the problem seriously, fix it without a hassle, and give you a loaner car until they've solved the problem.

Sorry you had to go through this, but look at it as an opportunity to evaluate how the dealer treats you after the sale!

Pulled over, got out, pulled it back up, stepped on it, same result; Called Audi road service, had it towed into dealer; haven't checked to see what's what--probably bad master cylinder....BTW, mine's 1 month old.

...but I managed to get AoA to pay 1/2 of the cost out-of-warranty.

I believe this is a common problem on A4's from the number of people on this site that have had this problem. Also, when I had my car towed to the dealer, I had to wait 2 weeks for the repair because audi claimed the part was on NATIONAL BACKORDER! Does this tell you something about their clutch cylinders???
