View Full Version : anyone replace their bose head unit with empeg ? amol 12-31-2000, 12:55 PM please tell me it's possible !! one local shop i went to refuses to do it. I don't want to sell my allroad after just 2 days of owning it. gr 12-31-2000, 03:01 PM You will basically need to replace the entire stereo system to do it right. I replaced my entire system. You can't simply replace the Audi head unit with the empeg (you can't do that with MOST cars). It isn't amplified, so you need to add an external amplifier, therefore replace all of the speakers. I replaced my headunit with the empeg AND a Kenwood CD player (the S4 is a double din, not sure about the all road), added an amp for my new front components and rear mid basses and added a sub and an amp for that. Sounds awesome, looks great and the empeg is just so damn cool! Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions you need to, I installed it all myself (gave me something to do for the last three months! hehe). I also talked a buddy into buying one, he had his installed by a local stereo shop (in an Acura something or other), they charged him for an hour of labor, $75 because he also bought his amp from them. amol 12-31-2000, 06:30 PM is it a good assumption that the stereo on the a6 avant is the same (audi symphony) ? maybe crutchfield has some kits to do it ? PatS4 01-01-2001, 10:32 AM I will soon be ordering my empeg, would love to see your install. I am debating on just going with the empeg w/tuner once its released, but not sure what to do with the other DIN slot. Audi Empeg owners group? :) gr 01-01-2001, 11:45 AM You would be better off buying a really cheap amp and speakers than using the stock setup. Mainly because the wiring would be a huge headache. And the stock amp\head unit\speaker setup is "tuned" to work with those components, they sort of jerry rig it to give good overall sound. If you start replacing just the amp or just the speakers or just the head unit, it throws everything else off. Buying an empeg involves much more than just buying the empeg. You definitely need to buy a new amp, and therefore, IMHO you need to replace the speakers as well. gr 01-01-2001, 11:45 AM nyet 01-04-2001, 11:22 AM center console display work with the empeg? amol 01-04-2001, 01:48 PM Actually, I found someone who replaced the head unit for me. Didn't have to change anything else and it sounds great. |
