I’m going to be ordering some Diamond Audio speakers including the 10” M5 sub from SoundHabit.com. My installer doesn’t sell Diamond Audio but said they could make a custom box for about $130. SoundHabit sells a pre-fab .66 cu. Ft. MDF enclosure sub box for $40 plus $26 for shipping. Is there a big difference in quality, if any, between a pre-fab and custom made? I thinking the dimensions should be pretty much the same.

Because your installer can measure your trunk and possibly make a space-saving enclosure to your specs instead of having a big-block box in your trunk (that may slide around). Custom box, always have, always will!!!<p>"I'm that Blue Menace in your rear view!!!"

...they are going to use MDF for the enclosure. If so, I would go custom because then you can have the box built exactly to your specs. FWIW, it would cost you about $100 in materials (because you have to buy more than you need to get WHAT you need) to build one yourself, so if someone wants to do it for you at $130, I'd go for it. What I found with the premades is that they often don't have the correct size you need, or they aren't the right shape. Just depends on what you want to do, I guess.

Sheesh, my local shop wanted $250 for a basic MDF box! :-(<p>Charles
