View Full Version : Wax residue/swirl marks on my Casablanca White

About 2 months ago I waxed my then 1 month old car with Mequiars Carnauba wax. At the time, I had a hell of a time trying to take the wax off, and I found myself everyday wipping the same area over and over. It seemed that the wax was sweating out of the paing and reappearing. Well since, about 5000 miles later, I have driven my car quite a bit.... I still have some spots. What sucks though is that you can't see them since the wax is whitish and so is my car. They are so hard to see it is ridiculous, yet if you are washing the car the dirty water makes them vivid...
Finally, I also waxed my rims(Standard Sp Pkg on 99.5) with the same wax. I have the same problem there. There is wax that is hard to get out.

Is there a way for me to get rid of these swirls easily without having them keep appearing? I am hesitant to use glaze or any such product on the car mainly because it still is a new car... still a baby!

Thanks in advance to all with your replies

You probably should use a cleaner and then rewax. You should also probably wax sooner. If you are putting so many miles on the car, the air flow will remove some of it - it's not just a time issue, it is also the amount of use.

I have been using Mothers wax on my Casablanca White and like it. It is hard to see if one has polished the wax all over. I usually wax in the garage and the lighting help me see better there.

I do not really get your problem. If you have problem finding left over vax spots, wash and dry your car completely and go out into the bright sun and look at the reflection of the sun on the car. In that light you will see if there is vax left.

As far as swirls, good glazes are so mild that you can use them many times a year and not be afraid of grinding off your paint in a lifetime.

I've used Mequiars Carnuba on my silver A4 with no problems. Use sparingly and work on a small section at a time. It sounds like you may have put it on too thick.

I do drive my car to work, but only 50% of the time and work is about 40 miles total per day. The rest of the mileage I have done with pleasure road trips. What can I say, I love driving this car! I have taken it, Richmond, VA to Green Bay, WI (and back)4k miles in that trip!, Richmond, VA to Atlanta, GA (and back)1k in that trip and the rest is trips mostly to VA Beach 260 miles round trip or Blacksburg, VA about 430miles round trip. All travel except trip to WI were done on weekends. One thing to prospective buyers and or new buyers, the gas mileage has improved for me since I chipped and I was able to get 31MPG calculated on my trip to Atlanta. During break in it was around 27-28 best and about 22MPG or so in the city.

Enjoy your cars... I know I enjoy mine!
