...but when you attach the speakers to the adapters, the magnet will most
likely hit the door frame. I didn't peek during the install but I know they
had to trim some metal to get the mids to fit. One other possible
solution would be to "shave" an inch or more off the adapters themselves
to get the speakers to sit more closely to the mounting point.

The MB Quart front speaker adapters are only about 3/4" thick. The only way I know of to deepen the stock mounting area for the front door speaker is to shave the mounting posts (there's three of them that the adapter ring mounts to. ..it was a while back although Peter V. came over my place with the
adapters about a week ago and I could've sworn they were thicker.
It must have been with the mounting posts. Those can be clipped off.

Hey!

The 5.25" Quart adapters fit my 99.5! All I had to do was force the panel in a little and they fit without a problem! Unfortunately, I now discovered that my
speakers are too deep (just barely)! Well, back to the store tomorrow! I think I'll try Boston next.

have you looked at Diamonds? I think for the 5-1/4" they are less deep than the Bostons or the Quarts.

I know that BA Pros are deep but people got them in the doors somehow.
The Rally's which I have in mine fit but with some modifications to the
door frame. I wonder how deep the polks were.

I ended up getting the Diamond Hex speakers. I'll try to post some pictures when I install them on Monday.
