Okay everyone I’ve gone through a million postings and I still can’t find a good answer to this question!!!! What is the best way to run a power wire from the battery to the trunk in a 1999.5 A4tqm, while avoiding the ECU (I’ve read running the wire near the ECU could cause problems)??????? Any help would be greatly appreciated,

I also need help on this, as I am currently running wires in my 97 A4. So far I have run wires from the trunk to under the back seat. This is fairly easy, but takes a while the first time. I removed the rear deck, the rear seat and side bolster. These are described in the interior FAQ's, although they could use some pictures and a bit more detail. With these parts removed you can simply pass the wires through to the trunk with the other wires there. You have to dig behind the trunk wall to find them but it's not too bad. Now I am getting them to the front footwell. I was told I can simply shove them under the side floor trim, but I have'nt tried this yet. Should work oK though. Now the fun part. I'll try to run the wires under the drivers kickpanel and then try to find an existing hole in the firewall I can enlarge for my wires. Once through to the engine compartment, it should be just a routing issue to avoid the ECU. Anyone else have any ideas or advice? Thanks, Chris

OK - wires are complete. To run from drivers footwell to the battery do the following. Remove the fusepanel on the drivers side of dash. Remove the four bolts from the dash and pull out the dash panel. Remove the drivers side kick panel(2 screws). Then you can run your wires with the mess of wires already there. There is a pass through bushing thing to the left of the steering column that had some unused holes in it. I pushed my wires through there, and then pulled them through from the engine side. There is another bushing thing under the hood that I pushed them through to get to the battery. Then replace the dash and panels and wire it all up. Hope this helps. Chris

You’re not going to believe this I was lucky enough to have a “Michigan road boulder” hit my windshield two days ago and it needed to be replaced. Well when I took it into the shop (this mornong) to have it done, the manager was kind enough to allow me to poke around a bit before they reinstalled the new shield. Well let me tell you I managed to run the wire down the passenger side never coming closed to the ECU, because once the shield is gone you have all kinds of options. I was able to run the wire down the backside of the dash to the passenger kick panel and all the way back to the trunk in about 15 minutes. I did like you suggested pushing the wire up and under the door sill trim was easy as can be and with the backseat removed it was just a matter of location.

Thank you for your reply, maybe the moral of the story is to get zapped by a flying chunk of road?!?!?!?!<p>DougK
