I am currently doing an install on a 96 A4q. I've pretty much decided on Dynaudio separates,(two 7", a 5" and a tweet in each door. Pretty much made up my mind on Xtant 604 amplifier. Question is, Alpine 7949, 7941 or Eclipse 5506, 5504. I have used Alpine exclusively in the past but I was just wondering as I have not followed head units for the last couple of years.

I know I can turn the Alpine's red...don't know about the Eclipse though...

i had a green displayed alpine turned blue in the early 90's..... it cost me SOME money, not tooo much...depends on how bad u want it changed.

Go with the Alpine 7941. Me personally I like the rotary knob for two reason's it looks of better quality and probably is and it has the dual illumination feature which allows you to change from green to red (to match interior lights). This was the unit I was looking to get in my 1995 Subaru LS, but I decided to go with a Pioneer Premier P98-R. For one it had a nice remote and three 5V preout's. They don't make it anymore but my god I love this thing. The URL here is a great place to buy (I bought my P98R there) and also provide's links to the manufacturer sites. I really like the Eclpipses, but for the money you just don't get as much in eye candy and features as you do in other units.
