Hey all,

As I mentioned a week or so ago, I decided to go with the non-OEM Panasonic 8-disc changer from AutoToys in lieu of the more expensive 6-disc changer from Clair. Order process was a no-brainer. I have a '00 A4 Avant 1.8T with the stock Symphony system. I have linked my more extensive notes below. Pictures will follow soon.

The changer works pretty much as advertised. Contrary to the marketing literature, the 8-disc changer appears to have retained the shuffle-play mode. However, there is no one-touch direct access to discs 7 and 8. The unit will play them in sequence after disc 6 tho, and you can manipulate the buttons to get to discs 7-8 no problem. See my notes.

The biggest downside is that the stock mounting bracket does not mate with the smaller 8-disc changer mounting holes. Since I don't have a navigation system, I removed the bracket and temporarily secured the changer in the resultant space. I don't like the idea of mounting a cd changer to a sub enclosure... for obvious reasons. Am I off base with that assumption?

I hope to find a better solution soon. Any suggestions off the top? I am thinking that I will eventually seek a replacement for the muddy stock sub and come up with something to house the changer, amp, and sub all at once in the driver side compartment..

PS what the heck is that tiny black box attached to the top of the changer/nav system bracket in the trunk? it has 6 leads coming off of it. amp/crossover for the rear speakers/sub?

Direct link to my CD Changer info
