I'm looking to upgrade the current stock speakers (non-bose). I would like better bass but do not necesaarily want a sub. Which company sells speakers that have better bass than stock? I am looking at possibly MB Quart or Boston Acoustics, but are there any other companies I should consider?

...it was only meant to compliment an entire system with a subwoofer and drivers for midbass... otherwise the MBquarts have crappy bass. If you want bass without actually getting a sub, then the Bostons are simply amazing at this but prepare to empty your wallet. JL's will get you more bang for the buck if money is an issue. 6.5's on the rear deck should do the trick... although I'm not sure if the the big magnets will fit without any modding. I had Boston 6's on the rear deck of my old accord and believe me, I never found it necessary to add a sub although it wouldn't have hurt.

instrumental and vocal musics. Personally, i will listen to those music at home rather than on the car. especially when its hard to get the staging on the car.

...though, is it seemed as though they weren't as efficient as others. With proper amplification though, they are very, very clear and precise.

I would go with Boston Pros or A/D/S, personally, but with either one, you'll need some power behind them.
Both the A/D/S and the Bostons have excellent clarity, but the Bostons have a brighter high frequency, while the A/D/S is more flat. If you like lots of highs, the Bostons are first rate. Thy're prominent, but the clarity is so exceptional, it isn't offensive at all, IMO. Can't go wrong either way!

I agree that a proper amp must be used, the tweets are just phenomenal, great for jazz or any kind of acoustic music. They can be a bit on the bright side, but that's what the EQ is for!!!

I don't need the exact dB/watt rating.
But I am also interested in upgrading my speakers, but I don't necessarily want to add an amplifier. I am certainly considering the ADS speakers, but I also want something *more effecient* than the stock speakers, so I could have more headroom before clipping.
(I know, an amplifier is the best solution. But I'm saving my money for engine & suspension mods.)
Thanks,
Peter

I have CDtechnologies HD62 DTs in my VW Golf (my next challenge will be installing them in '00 A4) and they are driven by an Audison VRX amp. This is quite a combination. Clear, bright, firm, good staging possible and not to harsh
